If you were sitting at a bus stop in the pouring rain....

...with a couple of old blokes also waiting for the bus and a man in a car called from his open car window, "that would make a lovely photo", would you have a. Smiled and laughed along with him, or b. Flipped him the bird for being so bloody patronising and ageist?

Ah. TY. Thought it might be.

But, just for the record, I do actually think what I said above about cuteness etc. Now I’m only puzzled with its being seen as "superior". I just see it as true.

It's how my granny used to say awkward.

Thank you, glam for that kind defence against SournessPersonified.

What's an occard, gg? (I did look it up).

Gonegirl Tue 26-Nov-19 11:37:31

It's excellent Humptyd. If it wasn't raining and I wasn't still in my dressing gown, I would go up the town now!

Gonegirl Tue 26-Nov-19 11:33:51

Thank you. Sure it will be helpful. smile

GG, on a PC you're presented with a map whcih shows all the stops (on a mobile the stops are listed by default but you can ask for a map view), and if you click on the bus stop icon, as well as showing you upcoming buses, it lists the buses that call at that stop and you can download a timetable if you wish. Hope it's helpful.

say i hope you have a good day too.

TrendyNannie6 Tue 26-Nov-19 11:25:17

I would have laughed, and said why thankyou young sir

Gonegirl Tue 26-Nov-19 11:22:41

Will look at that one humptydumpty. I am new to using buses and never know where the stops are.

Gonegirl Tue 26-Nov-19 11:21:34

I keep meaning to download a "where's my bus" app. Don't get round to it. hmm

Gonegirl Tue 26-Nov-19 11:20:30

No. Bags just likes to be occard. grin

FWIW, I use traveline.info to try to mimimise waiting times - not always realiable, but you select 'live times', type in your posctcode and it presents you with all the bus stops nearby. You then click on the relevant stop and it should show live timimngs for the next half-dozen or so buses.

As I said, not always reliable (sometimes only shows timetable times) but works most of the time, and means you can stay in the warm until a sensible time.

In all the years I have been on GN I have never thought Baggs to have a superior approach to life in fact completely the opposite

Alexa Tue 26-Nov-19 09:34:05

There is a serious issue with Gonegirl's anecdote. Public transport services should be improved to the level where bus stops are comfortable and plentiful, buses frequent and comfortable, and what people formerly spent on private cars to be spent on comfortable free public transport, by means of taxation.

Eloethan Sun 24-Nov-19 23:03:22

It's been a while since you popped in to demonstrate your superior approach to life and make someone feel as if they are being over-sensitive and foolish baggs.

Namsnanny Sun 24-Nov-19 15:34:22

As usual with GN its a bit of a storm in a bus shelter teacup !!grin

Baggs Sun 24-Nov-19 15:22:20

And both those conditions make good pictures ?

Baggs Sun 24-Nov-19 15:21:23

Thing is, even if the person who called out wouldn't have done so if it had been three forty year olds.... so what? Old people, like babies, can look cute. They can also look like grumpy sods. As can babies.

?‍? << tin hat.

Gonegirl Sun 24-Nov-19 15:18:18

I have shrugged it off now btw. It was three days ago.

Baggs Sun 24-Nov-19 15:17:36

Seems so. More shrugs.

Gonegirl Sun 24-Nov-19 15:16:10

Missing the point there Baggs.

Baggs Sun 24-Nov-19 15:12:56

Baggs, people ARE quite capable of being unintentionally offensive. Doesn't mean they meant to be rude but they are.

Yes, I get that. Perhaps I wasn't clear. I don't think it is always someone else's fault if one feels offended. And I think some offence that one feels is someone else's fault, particularly if it was unintentional, should be shrugged off. Especially if the offending person is challenged and says sorry but they hadn't realised.... Depends on what it is, of course.

I sit on a sea wall crash barrier to wait for the bus that takes me home from work. If someone driving by said it made a good picture I'd probably smile and then shrug. Why would I care what some random person thought if it didn't do me any harm?

I think the word "offended" and all its relatives are overused.

Gonegirl Sun 24-Nov-19 13:23:17

Our buses only run every half hour. hmm And then they're crowded, and usually people younger than me are sitting in the older persons' seats. I hate buses, but needs must. I can't ride my bike so well these days. Legs just don't want to do it. Sigh.

Lyndylou Sun 24-Nov-19 13:19:30

If I was sitting at the bus stop for 20 mins in pouring rain I would probably already be in a grumpy mood. I am thinking of writing to First Bus and asking them why, if they obviously can not keep to the timetable they have published, why don't they rewrite it to reflect reality. Then I could sit in our warm coffee bar at work for 20 mins instead of sitting, or standing, waiting for buses that just don't turn up. So the feeling that some idiot in a warm car found my discomfit amusing would not go down well.

Gonegirl Sun 24-Nov-19 12:24:40

Glad someone gets it Eloethan. Yes, it was cold and bleak and I had been waiting twenty minutes. No one was feeling exactly chipper.
