AIBU to be weary already and unsurprised that Harry and Meghan are threatening legal action against the Canadian Paparazzi?
They should be able to live a more peaceful life but were they really so naive as to think they would be left in peace at this stage?
Maybe they’re just putting a stick in the sand but I think there needs to be a sea change in journalism before any real respect for individuals is shown.

Nothing like stirring the pot to keep people interested is there. MM is hardly keeping a low profile is she with social media posts etc.

I agree Fennel I thought Archie looked large in that sling.

We are certainly getting our money’s worth out of the royals lately aren’t we?

First there was Randy Andy and his paedo friend and now we have these two thoroughly entertaining us with their absconding exploits, along with suing the British and now Canadian press. Brilliant!

This is more like it isn’t it?

So much more interesting than just seeing them cutting a ribbon or visiting some worthy cause!

You may have gone H and M but you continue to entertain us !

No need to send photographers from the UK to Canada, they can buy them.

It was the same with Diana.

SirChenjin Wed 22-Jan-20 20:55:16

I imagine that the British press will be only too happy to buy the pictures given the battle lines that H&M have drawn

M0nica Wed 22-Jan-20 20:24:49

In the UK there are informal agreements between the press and the Royal family, that, for example, they will be given opportunities to take photos of the royal children when they start school etc, if they refuse to buy papped photographs, it is generally supported and while it doesn't completely stop, the papping, it does reduces the problem.

In Canada there are no such protocol. H&M and child are at the mercy of the papps and the British papers can buy the photos. Perhaps H&M should have thought it through.

We need to scale down our royals, who should act more low key like the Scandinavians. They seem to be able to lead fairly 'normal' lives. Why not our lot?

I've copied and pasted the relevant bit.

As the couple’s lawyers, Schillings, were busy issuing legal warnings to the British newspapers which ran the paparazzi pictures of Meghan and Archie walking the dogs down a woodland trail, American broadcasters were happily reporting on the story. All while illustrating their packages criticising the ‘intrusive’ UK press with the very images and footage the couple have complained about.

This poses two problems for Harry and Meghan. It not only opens them to accusations of double standards, but leaves them even more exposed than they were in Windsor. The paparazzi and major US networks are already treating the Sussexes the same as other celebrities. They might still be called Duke and Duchess, but from a media perspective they are now fair game, without the palace to protect them.

Let’s not forget that these paparazzi are from LA-based picture agencies – not British. And they show no sign of downing tools, despite the couple’s complaints about being ‘stalked’ and ‘besieged’. The bigger the market in America, the greater the need for pictures – which is going to make it even more difficult for Harry and Meghan to balance their desire for privacy with their need for publicity.

Part of the article in question. Apologies for the long cut n paste but if the article is behind a firewall I only know this way!
On Monday, a pap photographer, who had followed Meghan from the house, took surreptitious photos while hiding in the bushes. These photos have been published online and by a number of UK newspapers, with no consideration of how they were obtained. This type of continual harassment and the ignoring of numerous legal notices asking them to stop obviously raises serious safety and security concerns and is causing them considerable distress .”
The incident will raise questions about the couple’s decision to quit the UK due to the “bullying” British tabloids when they were rarely pursued by paparazzi photographers due to a long-standing agreement between the palace and editors following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales
Now no longer members of the Royal family, the couple are being treated as “celebrities” in North America – which one paparazzo said was “like the Wild West compared to Britain ”.
It will also raise questions over the couple’s publicly funded security, which is under review
.....
Monday’s photographs, and others of the Duchess boarding a sea plane and then driving to the airport, were released by Backgrid picture agency and Splash News .

Poor little Archie - to me he looks too big and heavy to be carried in a front sling.

Urmstongran Wed 22-Jan-20 19:05:59

Seems Meghan was doing a photo op in the woods with Archie.

Now we're being asked to believe the paps jumped out from behind trees! Just look at the two armed security officers to know that is utter bilge.

They are off the scale entitled.

Sparklefizz Wed 22-Jan-20 18:42:15

Urmstongran Love it![ grin]

SirChenjin Wed 22-Jan-20 18:41:18

Perhaps suing the press on a monthly basis is how they plan to become financially independent grin

Oopsminty Wed 22-Jan-20 18:37:58

preparing for the next chapter in their lives behind closed doors.

Behind closed doors?

I don't think so!

Calendargirl Wed 22-Jan-20 18:33:24

Surely they should just hunker down for a while, no walks in public parks, no charity appearances, just keep a really low profile.
They are still officially members of the Royal Family until the spring, although not carrying out any duties, so perhaps they can treat the next two/three months as ‘gardening’ leave, preparing for the next chapter in their lives behind closed doors.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 22-Jan-20 18:27:47

Megan looked happy and far from startled while out walking and I find it hard to believe that she didn't expect the attention. She has two security people with her, who I believe check out where she is going and if its safe, so did she know?

They are just going to have to accept the attention and stop whinging, the press will soon lose interest and move on to a new story.

Urmstongran Wed 22-Jan-20 18:22:14

Boss a bit stuffy and formal? Hate your job commitments? Feel your brother always gets more attention than you? Cottage too twee and rustic? Not allowed to take as many vacations as you would like? Come to Canada! No residency? No problem! Trudeau would love to have you. Bring mittens.

BlueSapphire Wed 22-Jan-20 18:16:10

I knew this would happen; was only saying the other day that wherever they go they will never escape the press, and now they have made it worse than before, especially as they will lose their security protection. What on earth did they expect?

Chewbacca Wed 22-Jan-20 18:13:30

Agree with paddyann. They need the attention.

SirChenjin Wed 22-Jan-20 18:11:30

Exactly notanan - well said.
