Last weekend, in Rutland, the first statue in Britain of the late Elizabeth II was unveiled.

I honestly give up.
There are virtually no flights coming over from Liverpool airport, the skies are very quiet. Many of the staff have been faced with redundancy and shorter working hours so are not expecting an influx of travellers.
No cruise ships heading to Liverpool en-route. They're germ-carriers as with this virus it can take weeks before cruise ships remain cleansed and safe to sail in.
Looked out of the window last night and was amazed to see so many aeroplane lights. For a while they seemed to be everywhere, but very few in the day.
And yet there is so much outrage expressed about elderly people going out to get their shopping - something which this government said was permissible, provided people kept their distance.
Tube frequency has been cut, despite the fact that many people need to get to work. There are the key workers and there are also the so-called "gig economy"/zero hours workers who will have no money if they don't turn up for work. The people crammed together on the tube, shown in the TV footage this morning, did not look as if they couldn't care less. They looked extremely miserable and anxious to me, and obviously felt very unsafe.
Have you seen the footage of public transport TODAY in London?
Boris should have stopped flights two weeks ago and imposed lockdown then too.He had the advantage of seeing how it was affecting other countries yet he was happy to announce his "herd immunity" nonsense .I think he comes from a different planet..flights need to be stopped now.China is experiencing a second wave of infection from people flying in.We shouldn't allow the same to happen here ...time to put people first ..not the economy
Wasn’t aimed at you Lizzie calm down
Just incase the remark ‘ pot calling kettle black ‘ was aimed at me - There’s a difference in going straight into arrivals finding your daughter and leaving I deliberately waited in the car park until she text to say she was through . Unfortunately I had no choice after a long journey but to use the loo which in Heathrow are situated outside the main building which is where I spoke to the South African lady . Maybe I should if told her to use public transport ?
I'm relieved to an extent, having watched the latest PM statement, maybe (just maybe) people will take it seriously now?
Hettyyou are correct
talk about pots, kettles and black!
It's just not being taken seriously at all here - by the public or the government. Why am I not surprised?
It's striking, though, that people complain about others being irresponsible - yet consistently fail to include themselves, or their own families!
I noticed on my FB page that parents were posting that their gap year children had arrived home, early, from south America and were ecstatic that they and their friends had arrived at their home. I hope this large family and their sundry friends stay isolated now because to my mind that is an awful lot of cross infection.
The process for ANYONE landing in China is about 20 hours, from start to finish. Escorted off the plane by staff in hazmat gear. Proper COVID19 blood test. Placed in a room in isolation until the results come back. Two weeks enforced isolation EVEN if clear.
I don't know what they do with people who test positive.
They are recovering from the virus. We're just going into it. If we're not doing checks, we should ONLY be doing repatriation flights. And even then, we should put people into isolation.
I flew back in (work abroad) last Monday and would have WELCOMED being put into enforced isolation.
My DD got back from Australia on Sunday and was told to go into immediate self isolation.
It beggars belief.
I guess a lot of people were picking people up, like you.
If we bring ‘our people home’ they should be placed in isolation, not collected by relatives.
Or stay where they are .
And , yes , airports should be closed.
We are an island - we could have protected ourselves but didn't.
Saturday afternoon we went to Heathrow to pick my daughter up , I was absolutely shocked as we got to arrivals and there were hoards of people just milling around waiting - no social distancing there !! Obviously several flights had landed and these weren’t just British nationals coming home because other countries were closing their borders these were holiday makers . I spoke to a lady who said she and her family had just flown in from South Africa on holiday !!! I asked why she had come and she said she’d had it booked for a while and would never get the chance again .and if she got stuck here so be it . WHY are we allowing people to come here surely our boarders should be closed to non essential travel . These people are potentially putting an extra strain on our resources including the NHS . Also there was not a single poster or notice anywhere around the airport warning of Coronavirus or informing people about social distancing or washing hands . Even disembarking passengers weren’t given any information they were just free to leave , no temperature checks nothing where as in Vietnam and Thailand they were checked at every opportunity - 3 times in Bangkok airport if you had a temperature you weren’t allowed to travel anywhere ! We need to shut our borders to non essential travel , bring our people home from abroad but that’s it , as an island with no land borders it should be easier isolate the whole country not bring more risk to our shores !
