Is anyone else becoming neurotic?

We have just had a delivery of medicine from Boots and instead of keeping his distance the young lad who brought them leaned into the house and put them on the shelf by the front door. At that point he was less than 6 feet away from me. I have sprayed the area with bleach and washed my hands umpteen times but I still worry as I am a high risk.

I worry about food deliveries and handle them with disposable gloves and any other deliveries are put in the dining room for at least 72 hours. Even the post is viewed with suspicion.

@Hetty58
I flagged up a glaring inaccuracy in the information in question further upthread and was met with the same waspish response. Usual modus operandi I'm afraid.

Hetty58 Thu 02-Apr-20 11:53:03

I still don't believe that I reprimanded anyone or was rude in any way. Examples please?

Daddima, just ignoring a post is irresponsible if it contains misinformation.

These are not usual times. We're in a national emergency situation. Yes, some people are becoming neurotic - and showing all the classic signs!

so I am not sure why you are not bringing that up

I think she was quite right to question the alleged source of the information and to inform you that it was incorrect.

I do not agree with you Eloethan. I have accepted all along that Hetty58 was quite right to research and bring back that research on the content of the post.

She did not, in fact, question my source in her initial post so I am not sure why you are not bringing that up. She only brought that up as yet another personal dig. If you think that is okay I have misunderstood your character for some time.

What she rudely did, and is the only thing I have complained about, is superciliously reprimanded another adult. In the real world, I could just have walked away and talked to someone else making my feelings about her rudeness clear. On here, unfortunately, the only way to do that is to tell her. Rudeness and pomposity were the issues, not the fact that she had done some further research and was sharing it. That is surely what we are all doing.

We leave post a full 24 hours on the porch floor before opening, I watched the postman the other day and he was wiping his nose on back and front of his hand and then posting the letters. Porous materials should be relatively okay after 24 hours.
Hard surfaces such as bottles and plastic wrappings stay in the porch for 72 hours before being stored in cupboards.

I’ve established a routine after listening to Dr Sarah Jarvis on the radio. I don rubber gloves to pick up anything delivered to front step (sign on door).

On my kitchen table I have an oil cloth. Everything gets put on that and sprayed/wiped with a bleach solution (except for fruit and veg) Then I leave it for a while. I wash my gloved hands, hang gloves on line to dry, then wash my hands.

Wipe down any surfaces I might have touched with bleach solution and put groceries away and wipe the oil cloth. I makes me feel better and that’s about all we can do.

Oh dear. It looks like some people haven’t read the important post. Please stop arguing and fighting, it achieves nothing. If you don’t like a post, just ignore it and move on.

Some useful tips here on distinguishing disinformation from the real McCoy.

GracesGranMK3 I think you are over-reacting to Hetty58's post.

I think she was quite right to question the alleged source of the information and to inform you that it was incorrect.

Lots of people are reading these threads and, on a serious matter like the virus, it is important that information passed on is not incorrect or from an unreliable source.

Of course, people are at liberty to do their own research to check that a source is genuine and to see if the information given is largely accepted by the experts, but not everybody is going to do that.

It's sensible to be careful about hygiene but I don't think anybody can completely eliminate risk. I rely principally on washing my hands frequently, washing tea towels every other day, thoroughly rinsing washing up/cleaning cloths every time they are used and hanging on a hook to dry, and keeping work surfaces as uncluttered and clean as possible.

I can't see how it is possible to thoroughly disinfect shopping.

Hetty58 Thu 02-Apr-20 00:28:54

I was merely stating facts and warning about misinformation. I don't remember any 'personal rudeness' myself. If I've stopped one person being very ill, or dying, it's worth it!

GracesGranMK3 Wed 01-Apr-20 22:29:51

So I shouldn't have quoted the email from Morrison's either Lemons? It is just because there is "much to be doubted on the Internet" that I suggested people make up their own mind about it.

Unlike some, I don't think Gnetters are children.

None of this excuses personal rudeness however long you support a particular poster.

lemongrove Wed 01-Apr-20 22:19:52

I wouldn’t put any info I found on this site tbh. The statements made on the article you re-posted on here may be completely genuine or may not be.If it is, then it will no doubt be reinstated in it’s entirety on here, and if not, won’t be.
As Callistemon says there is much to be doubted on the Internet..and some posters do believe everything they read on social media ( sadly.)

GracesGranMK3 Wed 01-Apr-20 22:08:26

^So much info knocking about, I am only looking at bona fide
Medical UK sites.^

I presume you, Lemongrove that you think you are adult enough to decide what those are and do not need to reprimanded should you chose to share what you read for discussion. After all, isn't that what this whole thread is about?

Callistemon Wed 01-Apr-20 22:05:35

There is so much unqualified information swimming around the internet, some fake, some not but unsubstantiated, that we must all be careful to check the sources.

Unfortunately many may not do that and put themselves and others at risk.

GracesGranMK3 Wed 01-Apr-20 21:59:10

is if

GracesGranMK3 Wed 01-Apr-20 21:58:18

Only after I objected to the way in which another member address the issue. I rather think, is that member had been so concerned, she would have reported it before she decided to be so rude. When, by the way, did the rules change on such posts?

lemongrove Wed 01-Apr-20 21:52:27

It GNHQ not another member who are deciding on your post.

We are picking up post and reading as usual, then throwing away envelopes and washing hands.

lemongrove Wed 01-Apr-20 21:36:21

GGM3....you obviously posted it with the best of intentions, but GNHQ have removed it until they are satisfied it’s reliable, (which it may or may not be).

The post is still on the mat from earlier today. It can stay there now for a couple of days.
I can see it's just a brochure, one I want but not urgent.

Hetty58 Wed 01-Apr-20 20:36:52

Clear and easily followed, yet potentially dangerous or fatal, Greymar. It's been reported.

Greymar Wed 01-Apr-20 20:06:14

I posted the same information and of course was mocked and ridiculed. I thought it was clear and easy to follow.

GrannieIggle Wed 01-Apr-20 20:00:41

@Callistemon Hello and thank you for your welcome!flowers

Post has all but dried up here - thank goodness! I'd like that bit of the CV disruption to continue please!

I leave it all on the shoe-changing bench by the door. Trouble is, after 2 weeks with most of it, I'm still antsy about touching it LOL!!

Are you doing 24hr quarantine per the US NIH? (I'm headed for the OCD club's 24 months I think...hahaha!)
