To go to sleep on a mattress on the floor at 15:42 on a Monday afternoon?

Backstory:
I had a nosebleed this morning and it is all over my mattress so I am lying on a spare mattress on the floor. I am wearing nothing but a housecoat, knickers and a long tshirt and I am lying on top of a throw, with my earphones in listening to relaxing music. I have been very wound up as a result of this lockdown and I made myself get ready today with a full face of makeup, and my nice but casual clothes, went into the garden and was freezing so I thought f**k this, I'm going for a lie down. AIBU?

FlyingHandbag, the title:

'To go to sleep on a mattress on the floor at 15:42 on a Monday afternoon?' sounds just like me.

If I'm tired, I'll do just that, snuggle down on my mattress and watch telly or listen to music, why not? YANBU

DH and I have "Stressless" chairs, and they are!
Fatal to lie back in them after lunch; we miss a lot of Father brown or whatever is being repeated!
Does us both good (we are both beyond 3 score and 10).
Only regret is losing the time to do other things, but Manana as the Spanish say.
If you fall asleep, you need it, so relax and go with the flow

I've started to lie down every day after lunch . None of my friends do this.
I listen to The honest guys meditation for half an hour and it's great.

Hope the mattress has been replaced by now.
As it wasn’t FlyingHandbag’s presumably it was her parents’ And as they must be very very old if FH reckons she is our age -give or take a “few “ years - I would hate to think of them on the floor.

Years ago, I used to suffer nosebleeds on a regular basis.
The hospital cauterised (chemically) my nose. It was very painful, while it lasted, (fully paid up member of the Coward Club) but have had no more trouble for the last 40 years or more. So it was worth the short term pain.
Have you spoken to your GP, with a view to a referral or treatment?
Hope that you now feel less stressed, and that there have been no repeats.

Why a mattress on the floor, wouldn't stretching out on the sofa be more comfortable?

Callistemon Sat 06-Jun-20 18:01:34

Of course, if it doesn't stop it may need cauterising.

That was Monday 25th May - has it stopped yet?
I hope so.

Actually I think I remember an old teacher doing it when I first started teaching. That was in the late 60s.

We are south of London and just putting the heating on....summers done folks!

Callistemon Sat 06-Jun-20 17:51:20

It must be at least 40 years ago now

My nose is getting bigger

Callistemon Sat 06-Jun-20 17:50:27

I know now, trisher grin
It's what they did to me at nursery when I had a nosebleed, I can still remember it all these years later.

trisher Sat 06-Jun-20 17:39:24

That's an old wives tale Callistemon. You are supposed to pinch the nose just under the bridge.
This is an old thread. It's freezing cold in the NE now.

?????

Callistemon Sat 06-Jun-20 17:36:58

FlyingHandbag

I am always very cold.

I think you need to get under the throw, then.
And wear a warm jumper

It's even colder today.

Callistemon Sat 06-Jun-20 17:35:15

I'm confused
was this before or after you had your unfortunate encounter with the wall?
Is your nose bleeding because it got hit by a flying brick?

The remedy used to be to put a cold key down your back. Can someone do this for you?

Rest will do the world of good.
Continue listening to relaxing music. Stress does damage so avoid it like the plague.
Take comfort from the sympathetic messages on here.
there are many folk rooting for you!

I am always very cold.

MerylStreep Mon 25-May-20 16:40:00

Where are you living that it's freezing. I've spent most of the day indoors because of the heat.

FlyingHandbag Mon 25-May-20 16:30:59

Thanks all, I'm almost in tears reading your lovely messages. You have all lifted my spirits greatly. I am having salmon fillets for my supper and although I haven't fallen asleep, I've had a lovely rest and I will lie here for another few hours. X

What's it called Charleygirl5 I need something like that.

You sound stressed Flyinghandbag not at all unreasonable, a nice relaxing evening for you with your flowers, virtual hugs and a big wine

Nortsat Mon 25-May-20 16:22:09

Oh FH you need a rest for a couple of hours and then a nice easy evening, with something light and tasty for supper.
Charleygirl has sorted out a plan for your mattress and kathsue has sent you flowers.
Try to relax, I hope your day improves ? (more flowers) ?

Charleygirl5 Mon 25-May-20 16:12:24

After your mattress dries, if it is still stained, I found a superb item on Amazon which removes stains like that one by just spraying, leaving and allowing it to dry. Your mattress will look like new.

kathsue Mon 25-May-20 16:08:55

YANBU. What you need is flowers and a hug.

AGAA4 Mon 25-May-20 16:05:24

Enjoy your nap FlyingHandbag. Mental exhaustion is the worst kind.
Hope your mattress dries soon.

SueDonim Mon 25-May-20 15:49:08

I don’t know why you think you need permission to do what you want in your own home! If you feel like a nap, have one.
