Well she may not think she will be old herself one day, but she is 73..... I used to like her articles in the Guardian years ago, but I think she has lost the plot.

All I can say is thank goodness she’s not a relative of mine. Christmas at her house sounds dictatorial and enforced “fun”. And what an entitled attitude - regardless of opinions on the “rule of 6” it’s glaringly obvious that the more people mix together, the more the disease will spread.

Also why are the Covid marshals automatically dubbed “bully”? Yes I noticed that too Lucca.
Just setting up people to be antagonistic to them.
I read somewhere they are to be recruited from ‘existing council staff’.
I don’t supposed many of them realised that was what they were signing up to when they took their jobs!

Iam I think it’s more than a non-campaign, I think it’s actively encouraging people to flout the guidance. I don’t like the idea of the marshals, or the suggestion that we should inform on our neighbours, but these are unprecedented times and we can’t just think of ourselves and our immediate families. Perhaps it’s unrealistic to expect responsible journalism from our gutter press though.
I’ve just checked the figures for Northumberland on the Kings College COVID 19 website.
Yesterday we had 225 active cases in the county. Today we’ve got 340.
That’s a very worrying rate of increase.

Not the time to be encouraging people to ignore the guidelines.

What I hate is the sense of entitlement - I'm not going to obey silly rules.
IMO if everyone had obeyed the silly rules in the first place we'd have had a better change of being on the way to recovery.
( ... and I DID say I knew the DM printed a lot of rubbish so nothing useful can be gained by pointing that out again!)

The DM is on one of it's non campaigns. Sarah Vine wrote a similar piece yesterday, in which she said she disagrees with Michael and will ignore covid bully Marshalls.
Its on the same lines as the non story about last night of the proms, with the DM now claiming it led to Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Brittannia being played and sung.
When the rule of six changes for Christmas (and hopefully other festivals) the DM will say it won it.

I think it’s a highly irresponsible article, but what you’d expect from the Daily Mail.

No one actually knows what the incidence of Covid will be at Christmas. It may be that restrictions can be lifted by then. It’s 3.5 months away.

It’s the Mail - I didn’t expect rational thinking, but I have a certain sympathy with the gust of the article. If someone qualified, independent and respectable explained the reasoning behind the so-called ‘rule of six’ and why it differs between the home nations, (and whether it will apply to government advisors) I would have more sympathy with it.

As it is, I worry that all the divisions being down by the way this crisis is being handled will go on far beyond a cure, and I am by no means convinced that we’ll get one soon.

The ‘United kingdom’ has never felt more fractured. It started with Brexit and has gone from bad to worse. We are not stepping back and looking for solutions to problems, but are being encouraged to behave like toddlers and shout ‘it’s their fault!’ and being told to ‘do as I say, not what I do’ or ‘just because!’.

I read the article from your link. She does seem to have a large sense of entitlement for herself. Apart from being sensible about the pandemic and the likelihood of a second wave, is she really that certain that her inlaws would not like to see their own families at Christmas sometimes instead of having to go to hers.
