To think we’ll be in lockdown by Christmas

To be honest, I think for safety's sake it should be a repeat of last Christmas as nobody quite knows the efficacy of boosters in each individual person, as it acts differently in the system. Given that two AZ jabs wane pretty quickly is it worth taking any chances for the sake of one day ?

Nobody relishes a lock down, but no one wants our family and loved ones at risk either. It's a complete conundrum, a balancing act. Hospitals are overwhelmed at this time of year anyway. If the cases are going to increase at the rate that is being suggested......

Think of it like the Daleks Biscuitmuncher. They keep coming back stronger just when you think you have them beaten.

Biscuitmuncher Sat 11-Dec-21 21:36:36

Amberone why do we still end up back at square one then

To save riots, I think we'll be in a lockdown immediately after Christmas.

Like last year then! Whooppeeeee, I’m so looking forward to it!!!

How can anyone take the guidance seriously when the government doesn’t

That depends on whether you are guided by what you think is right to do or what others are doing. Let's face it, many people who don't want a lock down will use the government as an excuse anyway.

Has a lockdown worked yet?

Biscuitmuncher Before lockdown last year deaths were in the hundreds every day. During lockdown deaths were under 20 a day. When lockdown was lifted deaths went back into the hundreds a day. So yes, lock down probably stopped hundreds, if not thousands, from dying of Covid before vaccines were available.

I think it will be after Christmas.
They aren't in a position to try and enforce one at this time, due to their own behaviour.

It doesn't make sense - that because of their reckless behaviour last year, they have to say it's okay for everyone to be reckless this year.

It's much less likely that people will comply, of course, because of the government's selfishness & stupidity, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be asked to.

It’s hard to discuss this without reference to the nightmare at Christmas breaking of guidance and rules alleged to have happened at number 10
It’s too important to have discussions/decisions undermined by our PM

I’m so fed up with the lot of them. The pandemic hasn’t gone away, the risks remain, the nhs is on its knees. Can anyone get a GP appointment - no thought not

A professor on the BBC News Channel just now intimated that we would have far more restrictions if Christmas wasn't in the picture.

Apparently civil servants are being toldt9 work from home and lockdown by Christmas.

Not really sure whether Johnson will. He has made such a pigs ear of everything

I'm with you love0c.

So-called experts say "25-75,000 deaths by April". That'll be as well as the 500,000 deaths last year that were meant to happen then?

As far as Plan B goes I'm happy to wear a mask in shops and on public transport (didn't stop from last time actually) and at a pinch in a cinema or theatre, and I'm more than happy to show my vaccine passport, but anything else is just nonsense.

Casdon Sat 11-Dec-21 17:25:10

Exactly how far in the sand have you buried your head love0c?
Pammiel I think there will be further restrictions before Christmas although not a lockdown, but the school holidays should buy some time. We aren’t going to know the next steps until we know the likely percentage of people who will require hospitalisation with Omicron. I did think Michael Gove looked very worried when he was talking about it on the news last night.

I think that it will be lockdown by another name. I don't think that there's any government will for another. Unless Omicron turns out to be more virulent then I guess it's all bets are off.

Yes, my own feeling is that instead of announcing a lockdown like last year, the restrictions will be added on until it’s effectively the same thing. Given the Xmas party 2020 debacle, I think Boris has some tough times ahead whatever he does.

love0c Sat 11-Dec-21 17:17:31

Meaning no Plan C needed. I question Plan B!

Pammie1 Sat 11-Dec-21 17:13:02

I did say cases - not deaths.

Pammie1 Sat 11-Dec-21 17:04:43

Just seeing the news about new restrictions being introduced for care home visits, and one expert opinion warns us to expect plan C fairly soon, as plan B wont be enough to stop a fourth wave - Omicron has caused the biggest daily jump to 633 cases in the UK. What do others think ?
