Just before my Nan died she said she could see my grandad, she said he had come back for her

Have you ever seen a ghost..

Yes. I was walking into the town centre, when I saw a lady, the grandmother of a classmate of my son. I knew her well enough, they had all been to my house. She was wearing her familiar check coat, pulling her shopping trolley. I wasn't near enough to speak, a few yards maybe. Broad daylight.
When I went into the bakers, I met the lady's daughter, she had moved across the town with her mother.
I asked how she was, she said her mother died last Tuesday.

Yes, several times. The one that I remember the most was about the elderly lady next door. She lived on her own, we would say hello and have a chat. One November morning I came out of my house to go to work and she opened her front door. I asked if she was OK as she was only wearing her nightie and it was pretty cold. She smiled and said she was fine, I asked again and she said 'Yes, Goodbye dear' and went back inside. When I got home from work that evening my partner said that he had some bad news, the other neighbour had not seen her for several days, he had a key so went inside. He found she had passed away in her sleep. Surprised I stated that I'd seen her that morning so it must had been sudden, my partner looked at me strangely and said 'No, you must be mistaken as the doctor said that she had passed away at least 24 - 48 hours earlier' The neighbour went in at 10am, I saw her at the door at 8.30 am. Maybe she was trying to tell me something

Yes I have. Had a nun stood at the bottom of our bed in a hotel room that used to be an Abbey. She'd broken a glass light shade in the bathroom to get our attention. She appeared after we'd cleared it up. Then she went through my husband's body. Very real. Very true. As is the fact we had the ghosts of two children, a boy and a girl, in my sons bedroom. They'd died in a fire in the house, something we didn't know prior to purchase. It wasn't until my son started asking me what they were doing in his room & I asked the health visitor if he was too young to have imaginary friends.

My late brother collapsed and died 200 miles away. I travelled up to the hospital he had died in with my cousin, both very upset . DB had been living with us but travelled back to his flat to sort out some business.
Following morning, cousin and I had stayed overnight in DB’s flat. I made some necessary phone calls, had DB’s mobile in one pocket and mine in another. My phone rang, caller id came up and it said DB’s name. Shook me, though I am generally sceptical. No-one on the line.
Probably a “pocket dial”, but why me, from DB’s phone, at that point in time? Always thought, if anyone would try to make contact from beyond, DB would

Some of these stories are giving me goosebumps and I hope I'm never paid a visit.

The day after my mother in law died I was driving to work very early the next day - as I approached her street turning the radio played her very important and favourite Nat King Cole song. I had never heard it for years and have never heard it since. I have no idea to this day why the radio station played it as it wasn’t their genre. Coincidence ? A very big one if you ask me. We got on so well. ...we knew she didn’t have long and I would call in most days after work.

FranA Tue 18-Jan-22 11:43:18

Yes I have. In my 20s I was peeling potatoes and watching my children playing outside. Suddenly I got the feeling that someone was watching me. I turned round quickly and saw my dead stepfather standing in the corner of my kitchen. He disappeared as quickly as he had appeared.

Cambia Tue 18-Jan-22 11:40:45

Yes. I was stood in the dining room talking to my son when a woman walked past behind him and vanished into the wall! I thought at first it was my dil and turned to talk to her. My son said what did you just see? That was five years ago and nothing since.
When we first moved into our house, we could smell lavender polish and the bedroom dresser was very polished quite often too. We didn’t have any lavender polish!!
I am the last person to believe in ghosts, very logical and pragmatic but I can’t explain what I saw!
Not at all frightening though, just felt as though she belonged here.

I once saw a very clear shadow of a stooped man, he would have to.have been in front of rhe window or in my garden. I rushed out to see, with my dog and sister, there was no- one..When we described the man to my mon, she said it was her uncle ...and that he was harmless. Apparently a bit of a lost soul, who " visited" from time to time..

I think that unless you have experienced something, it all sounds absurd. I have had many experiences, including having my shirt yanked from behind once when I’d lost my temper. I also once fell on the stairs, up in the air to crash down in the floor, except I never hit it. Just found myself sitting there as if something had protected me. I have encountered a spirit - an experience too long to relate here and impossible to adequately describe. I think some of us are capable of these connections and some just not.

No and I am not likely to because I don't believe they exist

One of our local pubs was supposedly haunted. By an elderly man.
I was in the bar area one day when I noticed an old chap sitting at the table near the fire with a pint on the table in front of him.
That was strange, because he hadn't been there a few minutes ago and to get to where he was sitting, he would have had to walk past me. He didn't speak to anyone else in the area, just sat with his pint and his fag.
I turned to speak to my friend and asked them if they knew who he was, but when we turned round to look at the chap he had gone. Again, he would have had to walk past us to get out of the pub and as there were quite a few people in the room, would have had to ask people to move or at least squeeze by them.
When I asked the landlady, she said that the general consensus was that it was Dan, who had been landlord in between the 2 world wars. Apparently he used to sit in that place with his pint and a fag for a few minutes at the beginning of the opening hours before going behind the bar to serve as people started to come in!
Never saw him again but when I spoke about it, several people also said they thought he was just a local so didn't say anything!

As a Christian, I know the Bible warns us against these things. There is very definitely a spirit world, but it doesn’t consist of returning dead people. They may look recognisable to you, but they are just Satan’s tricks.

A Christian friend of ours was in his house one night, when ‘someone’ was banging on his outer door so hard, it was caving in. On opening...there was no one there. Things started flying round the room. He prayed in the name of Jesus....and it all went quiet. He did move after that!

You’re much ‘safer’ dismissing it at rubbish, or doing nothing about it. If you believe what you see, and are open to spiritual things, so that you start to look into it more, this is when it gets dangerous.

Jesus is the only way to go.

My Granddaughter, aged 2+ used to regularly say there was a little boy in their garden. They lived in a very old cottage at the time. It really freaked my daughter out so she asked a friend of a friend, who was a Uni chaplain, to bless the house. The boy was seen the following morning but never again. Maybe he came to say goodbye to Martha??!

My elderly mum was very ill in hospital with Pneumonia, she woke up in the night worrying that she may die and saw my Nan (her mum) sitting on the chair beside the bed, Nan told her she was going to be ok and then disappeared, my mum even described what she was wearing. My mum made a full recovery.
Some years ago I had a part time job in the office of a care home, one day a lovely old man who we were all fond of died, some of us were in the staff room making a coffee, waiting for the undertakers when we heard knocking coming from his room, one of the nurses said quickly go and open the window in L’s room to let his soul go free, someone went and opened the window and the knocking stopped.
Msida & Pammie, I agree with what you say, it’s incredibly tough & totally heartbreaking being the one left behind ?

Apologies for typos- the post wouldn't let me preview and shot off before I could correct it.Thats not otherworldly, thats me and technology!

Seeker2022 Tue 18-Jan-22 11:27:07

Correction to my post about "Hello from Heaven" book. I see from the Waterstones site that, although the authors interviewed 2,000 people and and collected more than 3,300 first-hand accounts, they selected 353 accounts to actually put into the book.

I was working in a local club and had to go to the cellar to refill stocks. It was fully lit and I could see clearly. There was only me in there, but I was actually pushed forward and heard 'Get Out'. I was told later that it was known to be haunted.

My 80 yr old nan who was fit as a fiddle, grew all her own veg, very spritely , grandad had died over 20 yrs before. One January she asked my hubby who was a decorator to redec her dining room. She explained grandad had come to see her and told her to get the house in order as she would die that year and join him. All the family thought she was losing her marbles, we decorated, as soon as the house was finished she died and she was found laying on her back with a bible open on her chest on the lord is my shepherd page looking very at peace. We were all upset but my 5 yr old daughter said why are you so sad, she is so happy now she is with grandad again. When the phone call came in the tree outside the window filled with a flock of colourful birds, parakeets I think, (in Hampshire UK?!?) as the news was conveyed on the phone - most bizarre, never seen them before or since, she sent them down to show us how beautiful life is and make us smile when we were sad am convinced of it. Call ended and they were gone but all 4 members of our family saw them and were watching out the window at the amazing sight while we took the news on the phone.

I do believe,and regularly see
'ghosts'or hear them as I am a natural clairvoyant, have been since I was 11- when it terrified me.Didn't really learn to manage it until my first husband died in his early 40's.Most of the passed on are benign and want to let their families know they are ok pr to ease their suffering.A friends daughter and grandmother turned up together at the side of my bed a couple of weeks ago-the grandmother dressed in very distinctive clothes. What they wanted to say was pertinent to the situation my friend was going through, but I didn't understand some of things said to me,though my friend did and I felt a sense of relief in her.I didn't know her mum at all,she passed away before I met my friend. She didnt recognise the clothes I described her mum wearing, but came scross a photo of her wearing exactly the clothes I described a week or so later! There are plenty of sceptical people out there, often with good reason as there are charlatans as with any profession. However, this gift came to me unbidden, and can be a double edged sword! But its also led me to a faith and has given me much comfort over the years.I also agree with the poster who described the 'recordings' being left after a very happy or unhappy incident and some people can 'play' it,others can't.Pubs that often seem to be 'haunted' hold so many feelings from people talking to others, drowning sorrows etc,but not all,and there are some very unkind spirits- as they were in this life-around.Being no longer in this world doesnt mean you change and become Mr or Mrs Wonderful immediately or ever! Interesting posts.

Many. Mum was at the top of the stairs and a lightbulb blew up. She screamed and told my father that she had seen a ghost.
A few days later, a newspaper reported the death of a lorry driver in an accident. It was the previous occupant of the house, and the death was at the same time.
As a teenager, I had had a great day out and was resting in my bedroom. I saw a man and boy in flat caps sitting on the opposite bed. They were grey and fatigued, Victorian looking. The man said: 'Yes you've had a great day, but look at us and think on.' It still chills me remembering.
A while back Mum passed peacefully, 500 miles away. My brother phoned to tell me. Even though I was prepared, it was still a shock. I got a phonecall from my grown son who had pulled over in his car, as he felt he just HAD to phone me about something urgent, even though he didn't know any of this. He was so shaken. Telepathy. My brother said he saw Dad (already passed) sitting in the armchair waiting for Mum to come and see him

In the 60s I moved to Kensington/Chelsea for a new job, I stayed initially in a hostel. My cubicle was one of 3 in a large bedroom on the 2nd floor. One night I was wakened by screaming and an occupant of one of the other cubicles ran out screaming she's hanging. I could hear carriage doors slamming outside. I could hear other screaming and some screeching. Turned out the other girl had known that a maid (in a former life) had hung herself on a pulley and there were lots of coming and going in the house. I was scared out of my mind.

I used to work in a supermarket that was built on the site of an old children's home.
One day on checking the CCTV, we saw two young children running around the storeroom. No one can get in without a code and when a couple of people went to check they found no one there. We saw them on the CCTV and once they left the two children appeared again. It was then we noticed their clothing was from around the 1890s

YES - I have seen quite a few! First one was when I was only 8 yrs old, we had moved into a new house and my bedroom had an alcove, every night a man hanging from a rope around his neck would watch me, so each night I would go into my sisters room and sleep with her. I even told my teacher at show and tell, bear in mind at that age I had not seen any horror films, any ghost books so had not been influenced by any scary media. My parents got so concerned they swapped bedrooms with me and my little sis but that did not help as I was worried he would scare her too, so would creep into her room every night and bring her back to my room while he watched me, hanging there! By my early teens I went to local library and researched and found out that a man had hanged himself there previously. I have since seen many ghosts, another new house we moved into, I told hubby I could feel the old house opposite watching me all day, and showed him what window. It was a listed building now used to sell antique furniture. We went over there and I asked the lady about it she said it was haunted. Hubby was asked to give a quote to decorate as we ran a decorating business, once upstairs, where public did not usually enter, I went all cold and said 'he is here in this room'! I found a book called Hampshires most haunted places and low and behold found Broomhill and the first two sentences written over a century ago said "I feel the old house, it watches over me!" when they sold it and it was converted into two homes all sorts of strange things happened in our cul-de-sac like books flying off shelves, and door handles rattling, not just at my house ALL the neighbours were sharing same experiences, he was cross his house was being invaded!

No. I would like very much to have been visited in some way by the loved ones that I have lost, specially my parents, and I am sure that if they could have, they would have "shown me a sign" to comfort me. And yet some people apparently see ghosts of great grandparents they never knew or strangers from the past.
