Any recommendations for hotels or pubs with rooms?

The one in Chesterfield is great too Jaxjacky. We've never stayed in them on a Saturday night. They might be a bit noisy on a Saturday's with the pub underneath. Sundays and Mondays are fine though.

In the opposite direction but this small hotel/b&b in Glasgow is wonderful.

Agree with Wetherspoons Kate1949 the one in Bridport is excellent.

We've stayed in Wetherspoons hotels. Three I think. They are great. Cheap and cheerful.

The Imperial at Hythe, Kent, overlooks the sea a grand old building with contemporary rooms.

Not a pub but highly recommended. The Hydro Hotel in Eastbourne. It’s just at the far end of the town but with sea views. Very comfortable and the staff are excellent. The food is particularly good at breakfast and in the evening. Worth a Google!

I recommend The Pilgim Inn, Marchwood, Southampton. A nice country pub near to the New Forest. Excellent food and lovely comfy beds. We usually stay there pre-cruise.

The Lion at Settle we stayed there in 2018 it’s a dog friendly pub. We loved it there it was like being at home cosy seating cushions and fires and central for walking etc.
We found the staff were helpful and there were lots of board games in the lounge cards etc. The food was really nice nothing was too much trouble we will go again. The parking is around the corner in a public car park but it wasn’t expensive.

An attractive pub in a pretty village with a tidal creek by a nature reserve. Excellent food with comfortable stylish rooms, a small garden and parking.
Discovered whilst staying at the Millstream.

Again, not south coast but I recently stayed at a superb pub with rooms just on the edge of Stourbridge in Worcestershire. The Seven Stars has everything the OP mentioned: lovely comfortable beds in spacious, spotless bedrooms; a friendly welcome from the owners, lovely staff, good food and everything you'd want in a bar plus a full English that would satisfy the heartiest of breakfast appetites.
It's in easy reach of beautiful countryside, many tourist sites and the city of Birmingham. I'm looking for an excuse to return!

Not on the South coast but the Cow pub in Derbyshire worth a look. I haven’t been but know someone who has.

The Rosehill House Hotel, in Burnley, Lancashire.

Ok, not the South Coast, but one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in, an old Mill Owner's house. Handy for the lovely countryside of the Upper Calder Valley and the quirky town, Hebden Bridge.

I think it's family owned and run, but not 100% certain.

When I visited in August last year I had a badly broken wrist in a cast, and the staff were really helpful. I asked for my breakfast to be cut up for me in the kitchen, which was no problem to them, and they wouldn't let me lift the coffee or milk/juice jugs in case they were too heavy and I hurt myself further.

My single room was very nice, very comfortable, with unusual and personal feeling decor and like most places now, was en-suite.

The dining room is great with the original dark wood and ceiling.

There's plenty of parking and a neat little garden for outdoor drinks or coffee when the weather's good. Also, a lovely lounge and for larger/wedding parties a big Conservatory.

Prices are around £76 to £87 per night which seems really good to me, particularly in light of the great service you get.

Oh - just went to the website to get more photo's and I see the restaurant is temporarily closed, but breakfasts are still available though only between 8am - 9am. It does say Room Service available, but if you fancy a stay there, it'd probably be best to ask the extent of that.

We stayed in the Royal Victoria Hotel in Hastings last year, old fashioned, huge room, lovely menu for dinner and good breakfast, right on the sea front.
