What current day words drive you up the wall?

Calling people Lovely’s, guys, peeps.
Constantly saying ‘awesome’ when it’s something not awesome at all.

"You've done good" instead of " You've done well".

I love this thread. All the gruesome modern lingo in one cringeworthy, embarrassing outpouring. The Gransnetters clearly have an ear for language.

I am irked by the interlocutor asking whether I 'know what they mean?' at the the of a sentence. Of course I do. They are speaking English. And it wouldn't take an Einstein to work it out either.

And too much of the 'f' word... it looses its impact!

Has just lost all meaning. Is anyone actually really regretting their actions/words? Or just regretting getting caught out?

My big cringe is when people talk about their fur babies. A bit sad I think as I always assume they never had human babies.

Another thing , when I put on the radio at 7 in the morning the journalist says “ we’ll return to the story we have been talking about all morning “ He might have be up very early but 7 is not all morning !
I hate being a customer on the railway, I am a passenger and I went to the railway station not the train station ! Enough from me….

Ok I’m just going to put this out here.
I like the way language evolves. We would sound very strange if we all spoke in the Victorian manner.
Tv, streaming & the internet all speed up this process. Back in our day it would take years for a new word or phrase to catch on , now it’s a matter of hours.
My only pet hate is could of instead of could have.
I sometimes say ‘could I get’ in a restaurant as I know it annoys my husband aka grumpy old man.
My grandkids use ‘a bunch of’ for a lot of anything, including water. Makes me smile.

And “bored of” instead of with or by. I know language develops and changes but grrrr!

I can’t stand it when people say, The view is to die for! really would you die for that view, I don’t think so.

also and very weirdly …shut! I hate that word don’t know why, I always say close.
