Just checked my energy account with BG online. Looked at my energy statement which shows the total DD’s I’ve made this year and deductions as bills have become due. The £66 COL payment landed on the account on 21st October and was credited to the account, then immediately shown in the deductions column and the total in credit was reduced by £66. Tried to ring BG but the wait time is estimated to be over an hour, so thought I would post and see if anyone has had the same thing and can explain it to me. Thanks.

Hi Pammiel that doesn't sound right at all unless you have a bill for 21st of October for £66.00. No one wants to wait on the 'phone for an hour or more but I do think you should bite the bullet and see what BG have to say.

I think this may be one of the shortest GN threads in history because I think you’ve just solved it for me !! Your comment prompted me to scroll back to previous bill deductions on the statement. The last deduction shown was 16 May 2022, and this corresponds with the issue date of that bill. When I scrolled back, the previous billing date is 16 November 2021, so obviously a bill is due imminently. Hanging on the phone to speak to them now though, because there have been no deductions for the rest of the bill as yet, so just going to make sure this is right. Thanks for your help.

You're very welcome Pammielsmile. Let me know when you've had it confirmed. Do you think there might be a prize for the shortest thread in GN history?grin.

Have you checked your bank account? BG paid ours into that but it did take a while.

I have checked my bank account but nothing has landed as yet. Still hanging on for BG on the phone, so will check that. Makes sense that they would deduct it from the energy account if they are paying directly into the bank - I assumed it would just come off the bill.

Will do. I think the thought of a prize for the shortest thread in GN history is an intriguing one !! What to award…………….

My understanding was BG would be making the payments into the bank for Fixed Direct Debit customers?

Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle.

I’m with British Gas. My first instalment arrived in my fuel account last week and disappeared the following day. I checked my bank out and found it had been transferred to it. Not sure why they’re doing that and giving themselves extra admin.

I sent it straight back into my BG account.

Finally got through and British Gas and it’s as Grannynannywanny says. They are recording the payment on customers’ energy account and then deducting the same amount again as it’s transferred into their bank account. They say it should land in the next day or so, so will keep an eye out. I too, will be sending it straight back to the energy account. Seems a very inefficient way of doing things, but there we are. Thanks everyone.

Good to know, but how complicated.
I am glad Octopus has just taken the £66 off the direct debit. We had an email in advance so we knew what to expect.

Good to know Pammiel. We're with Octopus too Cabbie so our £66 goes in on our account as a credit and our DD has been reduced by that amount.

I suppose they do this to give the customer a choice as to where they spend the £66 - electricity/gas/LPG to tank/oil to tank. It is after all a grant to the person and not to BG and that person has the right to spend it as they with to.

Several of the energy companies are refunding to Bank account this £66/£67. However it takes five working days for this transfer to take place. It will arrive in your bank account after that time. It can be used in any way you wish it - best for some to keep it in their own bank accounts rather than a credit balance in their energy companies one.

I read DD as Darlig Daughter, so I was already off to a crazy start! 😆
