Creepy Adverts on Television. [1]

It may be me . . . but is anyone else left feeling a little "icky" by the advert for Bold washing pods featuring a 'Dad' being sent out on a date in his best shirt by his daughters?

He may not be 'Dad' of course. Maybe he is Uncle Jim or much much older bro.

Just feels . . . creepy.

Do the girls wait up to hear a blow by blow account of his evening out (note the heart messages signalled as he sets off down the pathway)?

What really, really annoys me is when very well-known, well-paid, super-rich actors and celebrities are employed to do the adverts.

Judi Dench, Carol Vorderman, Kevin Bacon, George Clooney, Lily James et al.

Not only do they prevent struggling actors making some essential money making adverts, their fee is so huge the price of the product they're selling will be higher.
I can't even remember what they are advertising in most cases.
Oh yes, George and coffee (but no idea what make).

And that one where a woman strums a guitar on a beach on a planet somewhere is so annoying ......

I agree the Head & Shoulders man is quite cute but the ad is ruined for me with the La La Land type finale.

The American woman who "wraps her baby in softness when she is not in her arms" and then closes the box of fairy pods with a "click clack"'.

She’s Irish, definitely Irish.

Yes, she's quite well-known, I think but I can't remember who she is 😁

I don't mind her, but she is Mrs Perfect.

I dont use Fairy for towels, it just doesn't wash out well, needs about 10 rinses!

I love the Head and Shoulders advert. We incorporate “ I don’t!” into many conversations… I know, get a life! 😂

Me too! There are some adverts that I always stop whatever I’m doing and watch and that’s one of them. ( I think he’s quite cute, too blush)

I haven't seen any of these. I think I need an "advert evening" grin

harrigran Sat 11-Feb-23 09:33:50

Read this thread and haven't a clue about any of the adverts, I record every commercial channel programme that I want to see and then fast forward the adverts. By the sounds of it they are mostly rubbish and would not induce me to buy their products anyway.

MayBee70 Sat 11-Feb-23 07:58:04

Oh I love the Head and Shoulders ad! I think the comic timing in it is great.

Juliet27 Sat 11-Feb-23 07:48:42

That stupid song and dance at the end of the Head & Shoulders ad !!!

Allsorts Sat 11-Feb-23 07:37:23

I just can’t stand looking at that woman sitting on the toilet, a new low, pity someone was paid well for thinking that one up, I wouldn’t buy the products if there was an alternative. As for advertising hair transplants, that is telling men that losing your hair is,to be avoided at all costs, the worst thing, it’s not we are not bothered, they are good enough as they are.

MayBee70 Sat 11-Feb-23 07:28:09

I hate the Numan ads. Just prey on men’s insecurities. How many men watching them can afford a hair transplant?

MrsKen33 Sat 11-Feb-23 05:52:23

The Numan ads, especially the one with the chain saw that doesn’t work, makes me laugh. Possibly shouldn’t at it is no laughing matter.

Rosalyn69 Sat 11-Feb-23 05:10:44

The Numan ads creep me out.

Do you notice every ad for say a cleaning product is fronted by a man these days. Are they scared to show a woman mopping the floor, or cleaning worktops, as they'll be accused of sexism. I would bet the majority of people washing the floor would be women anyway.

Great idea 😂
But yes, you're right.

The Airbnb Advert - Strangers
Yeti-like creatures are staying in an Air b&b but then turn into humans when they go out through the door.

What on earth is the message there?
It would certainly put me off booking an Airbnb in case I turned into a Yeti.

Anything with Kevin Bacon.

I feel sorry for the actress who sits on the toilet, imagine her agent saying " You got the ad! Well done! " Hard to turn work down these days, and ads pay pretty well.

Allsorts Tue 07-Feb-23 17:55:55

There’s a lot of very poor adverts. Dislike that woman on the toilet, would not buy their products if I needed them. Also why has every advert now got a mixed family? Is is now compulsory? Why do the people in so many have accents you can’t understand or people mumble. StandArds have dropped, I use advert times to make a cuppa, do a small job, rather than watch them.

There’s a holiday add with the most obnoxious family. The son teases his sister who has dropped her ice cream, the mum throws her flip flop at a sunbather and the son is seen tucking into doughnuts in the “private “ lounge. I must remember the name of this company to ensure I never travel with them.

I was just going to mention this one, if that was my son he'd be getting left behind like Kevin in Home Alone horrid advert and teaches kids who are watching its 'ok' to be awful to your siblings.

Esmay Mon 06-Feb-23 11:38:41

Over the weekend I saw both donkey ads in one ad slot between programmes .
I half expected the irritating man with his Picasso impression and his simpering admiring partner . I thought that I was the only one , who found him irritating !

Oreo Sun 05-Feb-23 20:50:26

I do wonder how some ads ever get made, when they’re shown to the company who pays for them, how would they think
‘Yay!What a great ad’ ? I mean that Pot Noodle ad with a donkey, or the grinning Scottish donkey for a start.

People must be able to relate to the feeling of clean bedding?

I think it's sweet
