Where’s the snow! I’m sorry if you’ve a few inches but why the panic over a dusting?

Nothing here until 5 am, then a quick shower of big, wet snowflakes, settling on grass, roofs and cars - but melting on paths and roads. Now we have light sleet (my grandson calls it tiny wet snow) in NE London/Essex. Surely, the schools will be open?

Wher are you Doodledog?

M0nica Wed 08-Mar-23 07:47:07

Just stopped snowing in South Oxfordshire. It has been snowingfor a couple of hours and we have got more than we usually get each winter, an inch or so, rather than a light frosting.

Doodledog Wed 08-Mar-23 07:45:14

We had snow yesterday and it has now frozen, so it’s treacherous out there. I have to go out tomorrow, so I really hope there was been a thaw - I hate walking on ice.

Grammaretto Wed 08-Mar-23 07:34:17

Happy birthday Joseanne
I think we'll get it later in the week but it's minus 7 here about 12 miles south of Edinburgh.
Too cold for snowgrin
My DB sent me a photo from Denmark today. We often get theirs.

We have a good 6” here on a hill in Wiltshire, more forecast, and luckily I don’t have to go anywhere other than take DDog for a walk.

Happy Birthday Joseanne!

This happens every single year.
It snows in March, and every one acts totally gobsmacked.
It also often snows in April too.

I was born in a snowstorm in London on this very day!
Devon is currently sleety on the coast, no doubt snow on higher ground.

grandMattie Wed 08-Mar-23 05:50:00

I’m in B’ness, and, apart from a few clouds at lunchtime and about 20 flakes of snow, we had brilliant sunshine. Yes, it was very cold, but gorgeous.

Hopikins

Halesowen. West Midlands. It's been a beautiful day here, bright sunshine. I opened my patio window and sat and did my ironing , really warm. Cold now 6.32 pm

Hello Hopikins 👋
I went to Halesowen College around ‘88 - 90 (Frank Skinner was my English lecturer) and my dad worked at the MEB HQ.
I’d tell you the name of the pub that I spent too much time in, drinking cider and playing pool, but I can’t remember it’s name… The George, maybe 🤔

Yesterday it was warm and sunny here in Derby.
It’s currently - 1.
We are forecast snow in the early hours of Thursday. ❄️

I dread looking out of the window in the morning in case it has snowed but I think it’s too cold here for snow at the moment.

I'm in Hertfordshire too, and I hope the blooming snow stays away - I hate it. And my garden will hate it too, just as some new shoots are appearing on the shrubs!

MaggsMcG Tue 07-Mar-23 19:42:44

I'm in Hertfordshire and we've been told that there will be some snow Wednesday around 5pm could be heavy and roads might be icy on Thursday morning.

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 07-Mar-23 19:41:43

The gritter lorry went along our road last night (it's a hill), but apart from 5 minutes of snow, it was sunny and bright all day today (Nottingham)

MiniMoon Tue 07-Mar-23 19:39:52

Here in south west Northumberland we had a yellow warning for snow from noon today. We had a lovely sunny day with one short snow shower mid afternoon. The snow warning is still in place. I'm waiting.

M0nica Tue 07-Mar-23 19:14:19

In South Oxfordshire, a lunch time shower of sleet - which lasted all of 2 or 3 minutes, but the temperature was quite warm and I did some gardening this afternoon.

Chapeau Tue 07-Mar-23 19:13:19

Glorious day here in SW Scotland. Bit nippy though!

Callistemon21 Tue 07-Mar-23 18:54:30

ginny

We had about 10 flakes of snow almost an hour ago. Hope it stays that way too.

Hope you're well stocked up ginny 😁

It's due overnight here in London - and let's face it, even a dusting causes chaos, school closures, absence from work etc. as we're never prepared.

As the saying goes " Southerners urged not to travel as snow ice and blizzards approach Northerners you'll need a big coat"

Very true. I’m a southerner but live two miles from anywhere so we’re always prepared, have a Land Rover and a quad and a tractor, plus a generator etc for dire emergencies.
My mother is always warned to keep bread and milk in her freezer and my kids do this after being brought up to be practical. Both are advanced drivers so if we did get lots, that’s a relief.
