Fed up with squirty sauce bottles

Before the squeezy bottles were marketed, as part of a home based survey, I was sent a large squeezy bottle of the "real" mayonnaise to test and report back. I gave a very negative report back but sad to say they obviously didn't listen to me but when they appeared in the shops I knew to avoid them!!!!!

I don't think they taste as good in these plastic containers as they do in glass bottles. They do something to it to make it squeezable, I suspect.

I too cut them in half almost if you don’t go right through you can put them together until the next time you use it

If I do buy mayonnaise in a squeezy bottle, I store it upside down in the fridge. Then the conundrum is how to get the last few drops out of the bottle. My solution is to add a few teaspoons of balsamic vinegar and shake the bottle vigorously before using the mixture as a salad dressing.

Yep. I do this with toothpaste tubes too. Usually get a week's worth of toothpaste out of them that's impossible to squeeze out! It's a bit messy on one's toothbrush – none of your cute little pea-sized blobs – but it still works the same 😂

I will only buy mayonnaise, ketchup, etc., in glass now, and not just because of cutting down on plastic. Dh got very short shrift not long ago for buying squirty mayonnaise instead of a jar, out of which you can scoop all remains with a spoon.
Ditto one of Golden Syrup! I only use it once in a blue moon but give me the good old tin every time.

I wash the lids on squirty bottles each time I use them. I use a jam spoon with curved top to get any left over sauce etc from inside rim of bottle.

Plastic tubes of toothpaste, tomato puree etc are just as bad. You can't roll up the ends as you can with a metal tube. Storing those with cap down after giving them a good thump down shifts the contents to the opening end.

I do that too - it's surprising how much is still in them. The ones which do annoy me are the pump bottles, especially as with some of them there's no way to open them to get the last bits out.

MaizieD, how right you are about being a pain once there is a third left. Once that happens my arthritic fingers struggle and the air turns blue. Mind you, I tend not to eat sauces much nowadays as they are usually filled with sugars.

I do that too, Maddyone. Sometimes I am still finishing up the cut bottles weeks later. They must make most of their profit from what we throw away.

Storing squeezy bottles upside helps as well. The stuff is ready to come out, and you squeeze the bottle at the end that is full of air, which pushes out the contents.

I only use salad cream (Heinz original) from a squeezy bottle. I store it lid down, not in the fridge, and when it gets a bit reluctant I give it a bit of a thump down after using it. This seems to work pretty well, as well as wiping the inside of the lid once or twice.

Same system with Simple light moisturising lotion except for the last few squeezes when I add a little water and shake it up.

MrB uses loads of sauces (especially chili ones). He doesn't seem to mind icky lids.

I agree. You can never empty them completely either. I prefer glass bottles with a wide neck so you can get all the product out. I’m thinking of the mayonnaise jars, but even mayonnaise comes in those dratted squeezy bottles now.

They annoy me because they stop being easy to squirt from when they are only about one third full. You end up throwing some sauce away because it won't come out. I don't like waste.

So we just don't buy them, apart from tomato ketchup for my OH's addiction to the yukky stuff. It doesn't seem to come in glass bottles any more.

Have you tried washing the lid of the bottle? It might be gunked up with sauce, making it not come out straight
