Agree with Mogsmaw about Who Gives A Crap and the profits are used wisely. A loo break gives Comfort and Joy in my house @

primrose you bought the wrong “who gives a crap”.
We subscribed during the first lockdown. A bit of research suggested the standard rolls were indeed a bit thin . We went for the bamboo boxes and have been very pleased! I don’t have to lug rolls back from the shops and we never run out.

Thank you for cheering me up with this thread. I have been reading the posts to DH.
Unfortunately some of his comments are unsuitable for this thread. 🤣

Couchelle for us.

It’s a wonder we did, Terri! I think our loo paper was called Bronco, but similar Izal. . Those tins of solid toothpaste, too! But we didn’t have tubes then so it’s only really in retrospect that they seem awful. Oh yes, carbolic soap. Horrible smell.

I remember Izal toilet paper, Gibbs toothpaste in a solid block in a round tin and Lifeboy carbolic soap. A trio of awfulness in bathroom products from childhood. It's a wonder I survived shock

If I have the luxury of quilted it blocks the loos . I also have to tell visitors that the downstairs loo is for water only no solids. We live in a barn and have peculiar drains.
The last time DH visited she wondered how the cows before us had managed.GD told her not to be silly they used their tails. We all erupted, the joke for the week was we were going for a moo, not to the loo.

We always buy good quality thick paper but I have been disappointed recently when I tried other makes in a cost cutting exercise!

The first rubbish I bought was advertised on Facebook and was called Who Gives A Crap. It is thin and the squares are quite a bit smaller than usual. Complete waste of money.

The second was about 24 rolls which were a bargain price and looked good quality and had a coconut aroma. That was from Aldi and was too thin as well.

We really are a luxury quilted family. 😉

We once arrived at a holiday let when I was bursting for the loo - there were two loos and no paper in either of them! 😱
I had to send dh straight out on an errand of mercy - luckily there was a shop close by.
I later had Words with the letting agency.

Same here my Dh said that when I changed brand MrsKen33

MrsKen33 Sun 09-Jul-23 17:14:40

DH hates thin toilet paper. We always have to have the quilted sort. Otherwise he says , his finger goes through it !!!!!

To suggest that single ply loo roll is effective is simply a tissue of lies...

dogsmother Sun 09-Jul-23 17:00:10

Loves Bach
Imagine that the izal wouldn’t have stuck to me in the same way 👀

Cabbie21 Sun 09-Jul-23 16:54:17

I meant to add that in some places, soft loo paper causes a problem in the sewers .

Cabbie21 Sun 09-Jul-23 16:52:51

Hetty, what do you do with the bedding provided?
Or do you inform the owner that you will be bringing your own?

LovesBach Sun 09-Jul-23 16:52:20

How did we ever survive that awful Izal (??) paper? Shiny on one side and therefore utterly useless, and it was the only product available. I don't recall when soft tissue type loo rolls came into being.

dogsmother

Fanny it was lighthearted and I’m always laughing x

Thank you! thanks

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 09-Jul-23 16:50:42

You could take ‘wouldn’t know I’d been there’ in more ways than one given the topic of the thread (excuse my lavatorial sense of humour).

Hetty58 Sun 09-Jul-23 16:47:55

I take my own supply - not wishing to be red raw in certain areas, using the cheap, sandpaper type. With all my allergies - I take my own towels and bedding too. You wouldn't know I'd even been there when I leave!

dogsmother Sun 09-Jul-23 16:45:39

Fanny it was lighthearted and I’m always laughing x

FannyCornforth Sun 09-Jul-23 16:43:38

Having said that, I usually prepare for the substandard stuff in rentals.
I do know what you mean

FannyCornforth Sun 09-Jul-23 16:41:34

I’m sorry for laughing (it’s not usually my style) but the worst thing about your holiday was the loo roll?!
You were very fortunate

dogsmother Sun 09-Jul-23 16:38:26

I’ve realised that I am very particular about this. Just finishing a short break and can’t wait to get home to have my own brand again. Why oh why does everywhere use the thin single ply cheap stuff then you need so much of and not only that it is sticking to you as you are wiping with it! Maybe next holidays I will take my own hahaha.
