Although I must say DH is quite good at berry, tomato and courgette gathering.
Good Morning Tuesday 12th May 2026
It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
My DH is fit and active but there are some things he cannot do.
Start a toilet roll without shredding the first ten sheets.
Put any kitchen tool back into the drawer where he found it.
Answer my mobile - he can’t work the buttons which are different to his.
Do other gransnetters’ partners have similar inadequacies??
Although I must say DH is quite good at berry, tomato and courgette gathering.

My DS2 once explained to me that it's the hunter-gatherer mentality. Men were the hunters and had a narrow line of sight on a moving prey. That's why he can't see a packet of coffee in the kitchen cupboard, even if it's right in the middle at the front: "If it's not moving, we don't see it!"
😂
That explains it!!

Please tell me that was a joke
Please tell me that you must know just a little bit about Human Biology??

Please tell me that was a jokeAre you truly denying that on average male muscle mass, influenced by their testosterone based puberty, isn't greater than females? Greater muscle mass means dragging a heavy bin to the kerbside will be easier for the male than the female.
I wonder how we women who live all alone manage bins? (Clue- you don't drag it, you tip it and wheel it- that's why we have wheelie bins!)
I've lived alone, I've coped when DH has not been well but if there's one job I loathe it's struggling with a full garden waste monster bin around corners, narrow paths and down the drive.
Does anyone remember when the dustmen used to come and collect the bins, empty them into the refuse lorry then take them round the back again?

love that explanation JackyB

Men aren't the only people capable of dealing with spiders, many of us have done it since we were little. Urged on by a company of strong women who told us "If you want to live and thrive let a spider run alive" whilst we tipped them out into the garden.
Where, unfortunately, it may not survive!
I've been nurturing one which lives in the bathroom but it hasn't been out to see me for a few nights now, so I fear the worst.
Although it could have found a cosier spot now the weather is getting cooler.Have you named it yet?😂🕷
Sebastian.
Although that's probably not a good name as it just sits there and looks at me and doesn't run.
Even if there are differences in male and female brains this does not mean all men are incapable of certain things, anymore than it means women are incapable of doing certain things
The differences between how the male and female brains are "wired" is a generalisation. There are men who are capable of multi tasking, just as there are women who prefer to concentrate deeply on one task and ignore the rest. It is well known that males tend to "compartmentalise" to the extent that they may concentrate on one task/set of tasks but lose sight of the bigger picture until someone points it out to them.
My nephew says that I have some very male attitudes. I prefer to concentrate on business, and on what will serve my interests and bring me money. As for something I find boring or unrewarding its a "sod that for a game of soldiers" orientation. Thats why I am single and childfree.
Sometimes I think men can’t find things (that are in front of their noses) is just to irritate us. 🙄

Well, my man apparently can’t find a clean bath mat, even tho there are 3 in the airing cupboard.
Neither can he find a can of soup even tho there are at least 8 in the kitchen cupboard.
Even if there are differences in male and female brains this does not mean all men are incapable of certain things, anymore than it means women are incapable of doing certain things. I thought we hit that one on the head a long time ago.
People are different and have different skills.
Men are from mars, women from Venus was a mantra some years ago. We are different and I can celebrate that.
Accusing ‘some posters’ (obvs including this one) of being politically correct, woke and humourless is pretty rich coming from those poking fun / dismissing as hopeless etc, at the men in their lives
loopyloo
I'm not a neurologist but I do think there are differences between male and female brains.
Without a doubt 😄
If we are wired the same why do women have 2X chromosomes and males have 1Y and 1 X.

No, men and women are not wired differently
They do, however, tend to have more muscle mass and to be stronger due to testerone levels so are more capable of taking out the bins, especially the garden waste bin and the waste glass.

Honestly what a lot of sexist nonsense. Men aren't the only people capable of dealing with spiders, many of us have done it since we were little. Urged on by a company of strong women who told us "If you want to live and thrive let a spider run alive" whilst we tipped them out into the garden.
Men can cook, men can sew, men can iron.
Women can use saws, women can fix things, women can put up shelves.
Some people are better with their hands than others but there is absolutely no delineation on the grounds of sex.
One of the things one of my DSs admired about his partner was the fact that she owned and used more power tools than he did. And he's a great cook, makes fantastic cakes.
Indeed men aren't the only sex to deal with spiders. My daughter had to rescue me one morning on the way to work. Her boss fell about with her excuse for being late. However, as my husband lives with me and is usually around he has become my knight in shining armour. I am phobic enough that it causes a physical reaction and although I have tried to overcome it, I can't.
But men and women are wired differently aren’t they? I attempted to bring up my son and daughter in exactly the same way but they just seemed to follow male female stereotypes. My son would try to dismantle his pushchair. Sticks became guns even though guns were banned in our house. He was obsessed with robots. My grandchildren are following the same pattern, too.
is gransnet dying? not many new threads starting up lately so ones that have been up for a few days and have several pages are being found and then the thread becomes repetitive. all having been said already!
