Simple things that men are unable to do!

My DH is fit and active but there are some things he cannot do.

Start a toilet roll without shredding the first ten sheets.
Put any kitchen tool back into the drawer where he found it.
Answer my mobile - he can’t work the buttons which are different to his.

Do other gransnetters’ partners have similar inadequacies??

Men are from mars, women from Venus was a mantra some years ago. We are different and I can celebrate that.
Accusing ‘some posters’ (obvs including this one) of being politically correct, woke and humourless is pretty rich coming from those poking fun / dismissing as hopeless etc, at the men in their lives

Glorianny Tue 03-Oct-23 21:58:52

Even if there are differences in male and female brains this does not mean all men are incapable of certain things, anymore than it means women are incapable of doing certain things. I thought we hit that one on the head a long time ago.
People are different and have different skills.

Well, my man apparently can’t find a clean bath mat, even tho there are 3 in the airing cupboard.
Neither can he find a can of soup even tho there are at least 8 in the kitchen cupboard.

^Men aren't the only people capable of dealing with spiders, many of us have done it since we were little. Urged on by a company of strong women who told us "If you want to live and thrive let a spider run alive" whilst we tipped them out into the garden.^
Where, unfortunately, it may not survive!

I've been nurturing one which lives in the bathroom but it hasn't been out to see me for a few nights now, so I fear the worst.
Although it could have found a cosier spot now the weather is getting cooler.

Have you named it yet?😂🕷

Sometimes I think men can’t find things (that are in front of their noses) is just to irritate us. 🙄

The differences between how the male and female brains are "wired" is a generalisation. There are men who are capable of multi tasking, just as there are women who prefer to concentrate deeply on one task and ignore the rest. It is well known that males tend to "compartmentalise" to the extent that they may concentrate on one task/set of tasks but lose sight of the bigger picture until someone points it out to them.

My nephew says that I have some very male attitudes. I prefer to concentrate on business, and on what will serve my interests and bring me money. As for something I find boring or unrewarding its a "sod that for a game of soldiers" orientation. Thats why I am single and childfree.

Sebastian.
Although that's probably not a good name as it just sits there and looks at me and doesn't run.

Please tell me that was a joke

Are you truly denying that on average male muscle mass, influenced by their testosterone based puberty, isn't greater than females? Greater muscle mass means dragging a heavy bin to the kerbside will be easier for the male than the female.

My DS2 once explained to me that it's the hunter-gatherer mentality. Men were the hunters and had a narrow line of sight on a moving prey. That's why he can't see a packet of coffee in the kitchen cupboard, even if it's right in the middle at the front: "If it's not moving, we don't see it!"

I wonder how we women who live all alone manage bins? (Clue- you don't drag it, you tip it and wheel it- that's why we have wheelie bins!)

I've lived alone, I've coped when DH has not been well but if there's one job I loathe it's struggling with a full garden waste monster bin around corners, narrow paths and down the drive.

Does anyone remember when the dustmen used to come and collect the bins, empty them into the refuse lorry then take them round the back again?

Although I must say DH is quite good at berry, tomato and courgette gathering.

Of course you manage bins

But, unless you are a weight lifter (and yes, I know some females who are) then your muscle mass and strength would generally be less than that of a male.

Just that sometimes it is possible to use methods which achieve the aim without having the physical attributes.

I call it 'man looking' Gundy. Both Mr. S. and DS will open a drawer or cupboard and claim they can't find something when they haven't actually looked.

That is a good explanation JackyB smile.

I don't think anyone suggested women couldn't take the wheelie bin out, just that if it's extra heavy eg stuffed with garden waste a man probably would find it easier. I've struggled to tip ours on its wheels when there's been a lot of earth in it. In the general course of things a single person's bin will be a lot lighter than that of a household with lots of people in it, unless they're incredibly wasteful!

My dh can’t sneeze quietly. It invariably sounds like a bomb going off.
Otherwise I have (hardly any) complaints.
I dare say he’d have an ‘interesting’ list about me, if I ever asked. Which I won’t!

Hithere Wed 04-Oct-23 11:48:45

Yes, I pass biology class

Man and women both have brains and can use them to get things done, despite lower or higher muscle mass

Yes, of course.

The cant find something
Usually in our case it’s tool in his shed ^and there’s a lot)
He will come into me and say you know that so and so Yes 😉
i can’t see it anywhere
Downto the shed I go and lo and behold, there it is, in plain sight.
We’ve worked out what’s going on. He has a colour of the tool he’s looking for. Nine times out of ten it’s a different colour.

Callistemon21 Wed 04-Oct-23 14:36:02

Men are far more likely to be colour blind than women; 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women approximately.

Biological fact.
Of course, they will need to use their brains to achieve the aim without having the physical attributes.
Or get someone else to find it!

Hetty58 Wed 04-Oct-23 14:37:54

Callistemon21, I wouldn't dream of dragging a monster bin anywhere. I just fill lightweight garden bags - and carry them to the bin these days.

Still, I often lose things and have great trouble finding them again - even when they were staring me in the face all along. I still climb ladders, move furniture and paint ceilings. I just do things much more carefully than ever before, that's all.

Why are male/female differences exaggerated and certain roles/jobs assigned? We can all do many things if we're determined to.
