Car stereos blaring out!

Prolonged exposure to loud noise leads to encroaching deafness. Good luck as you age you ones who play your music loudly as you drive.

My only neighbour plays music outdoors in the summer, it's very loud and sounds as if it's the same tune being played over and over again. As she's very nice in many ways I don't like to complain but definitely not ideal on a lovely summer's day.

I know exactly how loud my car is Elless. Our last house was down a long straight country road, no other houses, where I could safely put my foot down - which is of course when the noise really kicks in. My husband knew when I was approaching home. It’s a standard specification exhaust for my model of car, factory fitted, not an ‘extra’ or a jazzed up modification. So it meets regulations, even when in ‘sports exhaust’ mode. I believe some here think that my car is as noisy when idling or crawling through town as when I can kick down on the open road. It isn’t.

I can't drive in silence and have to have music. I often play it loudish but am aware of my surroundings when doing so. If I love a particular piece of music I just have to hear it loud but with the windows closed!

Oh dear, I love the music on loud when I am driving. I only turn it down when I have somebody else in the car with me. My husband winces whenever he starts my car because he is hit with a wall of sound and I try to remember to turn it down after I have been driving but I am hopeless!

When I could drive I would have my Heavy Rock music very loud but kept the windows closed. My DS does the same when we are in his car as we both like the same music it is ok for us but my DDiL hates her music loud so we suffer when in her car! It is really each to their own isnt it! Just so long as we do not open the windows & share our music with the world!

I once had that late at night. Midnight. I went out into the street in my dressing gown and asked very politely if they could turn it down a bit. It was a young guy with a girl beside him. They were obviously focusing on each other. They were very polite and turned it down. I think it was the dressing gowned old lady that did the trick. Go out in your dressing gown and ask.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with trying to be young. We just love music and from the sixties right through to present

What's wrong with a woman aged 50 liking music, however if it's blaring she should be more thoughtful.

We always have our music loud when we go out and generally singing too not at 730 though, recycled teenagers and loving it

PS you don’t get drug dealers, footballers or WAGS around where I live!

I think only the silver surfers among us can afford to insure one!

Now, would I rather hear something loud or an electric vehicle which moves silently?

The thud, thud of heavy base from some cars is so intrusive, especially when parked near our house. How do they hear sirens or horns?

Also, so many tradesmen when working outdoors with this, not what I would call music, even worse……please do share your music, I hate it!

It's the thud, thud, thud, isn't it, as they drive through town or stop at traffic lights, stuck in a traffic jam, with windows wide open, "music" blaring

The very respectable middle-aged couple next to us - two professional incomes, three school aged children have an electriclly powered Porsche.

I find the comments on Porsche drivers on this thread deliberately seemed to be aimed at one regular member of GN and I consider it to be offensive and also indicative of a sort of envious resentment of anyone who might have a bigger income than them. Not a pretty sight.

GSM as I stated ‘if it exceeds 72 db’ it will fail an MOT obviously yours isn’t as loud as you think it is but just because it hasn’t failed doesn’t mean it shouldn’t have. We all know the MOT rules are not strictly adhered to in every case.

Oh dear, i/we are culprits. Admittedly we don't sit outside our home with it blaring, but Yes, i/we do like to occasionally turn up the volume.

We have eclectic tastes, so for example i may be blaring a bit of east coast rap, 80's pop, late 70/80's punk/ska, classical or ramping up Runrig as we sail past the Welcome to Scotland sign.

The only thing I do dislike are the back firing exhausts, because they freak out my dog.

We can't turn it up at home, due to us 'living over the shop' so being in the Campervan is when we can let lose and enjoy the music. Love a roadtrip with our favourite music.

I have no wish to be 'down wiv the kids man' as i am now in my 50's and that would be ridiculous. However hip hop/rap is a genre i still enjoy, having enjoyed it since my younger days and i am not going to stop listening to it now.

PS. No, we would never have it blaring on a campsite

DH had a blue Imp, when we started going out

I learnt to drive in a blue Hillman Imp, Marydoll.
They were very small cars and my driving instructor was a very large man and must have been 6' 4"!
He used a walking stick and used to prod my foot with it if I didn't press the clutch down far enough. He also said I'd never pass first time which made me determined to prove him wrong (and I did!).

Mine has never yet failed its MOT. The cars likely to fall foul of the regulations are those whose exhaust has been tampered with by the ‘boy racer’ types.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the FACT that driving with music blaring out is illegal and they can be issued with a Section 59 Notice for alarm, distress or ANNOYANCE to members of the public.
Also if an exhaust is too loud under Motor Cars Excessive Noise Regulations 2016 (eu regulation 2014/540) which sets the noise level at 72db this would be an MOT failure and therefore should not be on the road.

I remember when youths used to gather outside a local supermarket at night. The supermarket then started playing classical music, that soon shifted them!

DH likes his music on when he drives, and as he’s hard of hearing it has to be pretty loud . But he has the common courtesy to keep the windows shut and wait till he’s on the open road before he switches on.

Personally, I prefer a good audiobook.
