I was going to buy some buy some aftershave as a gift and was delighted to see that John Lewis(we love our customers ?) had a reduction of 15% for members. I have been a member since the scheme began so I thought here we go. I went to pay , keyed in the code given only to be told that I needed the app.I'd obviously ignored that bit at the end. I tried to get the app but couldn't , my phone is iphone 7.I phoned customer services to ask if I could get the reduction if I went in person to a store with my membership card. No, you have to have the app. I was also told that they had continual complaints about this which were passed on to head office. Obviously they are not interested.
Has anyone else come across this ? I must say I am hopping mad . Just wondered what you thought .

I have the latest iPhone with the App.

It is a nuisance but in fairness to John Lewis older iPhones/Androids are unable to support many of the newer versions of many Apps, including banking Apps.

I feel that the unfairness is to the customer some of whom cannot afford to update or replace a phone which works. Surely if you are a member , a membership card should suffice.

What a shame as I have taken advantage of the offer. I use the app frequently.
You often get offers, prize draws etc also free tea /coffee cake offer, there is one on there now.
I have an Android phone never had any problems.
Hopefully you get this sorted as its a shame to miss out.

Maybe JL dont want the hassle of paper.
Everyone wants to be digital nowadays.

I too am a JL member, tried to make a purchase today and received the same message. I order using a desk-top computer, how is this any different to ordering on a mobile with an app??? JL are going the right way to alienate customers who do not want/are unable to use a mobile phone to order. This is outright discrimination! Perhaps I shall take my custom elsewhere.

John Lewis will earn money from you having their App. No different to other companies.
It is a known fact that you will spent more time on an App than a website. Your viewing is information to to advertisers.
This is where it’s a money earner for John Lewis. Advertiser’s will pay to advertise with them.

Thank you for the explanation. I'll probably get it from Boots now as they have the same price with their offer.

I used to love getting the JL vouchers for free coffee and cake, in the post! Now most of the offers are for other things, and my phone won't take the app anyway. I get emails saying "Your reward is about to expire" - so annoying.
