Adverts on Gransnet

Does the privacy button stop anything else as well as the ads though ??
I don’t see any ads as I have my page the size of my screen if you see what I mean

I just think if I had a dot com web site, I would choose what types of ads are posted on it. Maybe some on GN like shooting games. I didn't know. Oh well.

I don't get any adverts. If you go to the bottom of any page and click on Privacy Settings, you can refuse all but the essential cookies and get rid of them. I just see a panel which says "Advertisement" and that's all.

I have AdBlock, so rarely see any, but I disabled it earlier as an app wan't working properly and that is sometimes why. I forgot to put it back on and got dancing jackets on the side of the page . I wondered what was happening until I remembered.

The only thing I see usually is a rectangular video of three women. I click to nuke it, so whatever it is advertising the sponsor is wasting its fee on me.

Those creating the adverts games to kill animals should be shut down and banned as the idiots that do it in games could easily be doing it for real.

No, you don’t need to search for the precise item it shows as an advert, the algorithms in your search engine finds things it thinks from previous searches you might be interested in - so if for example you look up a toy you are thinking of getting a grandchild it might show you Barbie, or whatever. I keep getting sheds and greenhouses which says a lot about me.

I never have. Ever. Wouldn't buy them one! They're too old now anyway 🙂

Install an ad-blocker. I use AdBlock and don't get any adverts on Gransnet at all.

I was just being bothered by an advert on GN while trying to read forums and was curious about what they were trying to promote. All I could see was a lens and sheep grazing with different yellow numbers above their heads. So I clicked on it and it said it was a game called "Sniper Hunter" where you become a Sniper and kill docile animals for your own fun and entertainment and earn points for this. I find this disgusting. Am I just strange or is this just strange? Do gransnetters think Hunter Sniper is responsible advertising for GN/MN ? I find this weird.

Have you recently watched squid game?

I get Etsy and Arriva. Also a cake that keeps floating into view in a very distracting manner.
I suppose that makes sense for me. I do buy from Etsy, I have travelled with Arriva and I love cake.
Though not all at the same time.

I’m pretty sure the adverts we see relate in some way to our own searches on the internet Macadia, as we don’t all see the same things. If you click on the x in the corner of the advert you can change your preferences. Not implying you looked for this game of course, it could be something only very vaguely related to it.
