Snow! I know a lot of people have very good reasons for not liking , I won't drive in it , but when I woke up this morning and saw the snow I was quite excited, we live right on the South coast so it is not something we see a lot of.

I love snow and especially the silence when it muffles sounds..

I love walking in the snow. Sadly none here but 10miles away they had loads

Mind you cold and damp really affect my painful conditions and I do have to keep warm

Cossy Fri 22-Nov-24 13:58:38

So long as it’s “proper snow” the soft white powdery kind which settles, and I don’t need to drive, I live the snow!

Not the grey slushy mess which we seem to get!

Just hate. Reynauds - snow = painful hands and feet.

Love snow! Made an extra trip out in it with the dogs, bouncing around. There's no bad weather, only bad clothes. We make such a fuss about 'extremes' in this country. As long as everyone stays safe, I like a bit of 'weather.'

It’s pretty to look at and ok if you can stay home warm and cosy. For me it’s a big no as I hate the cold and all that damp air. Give me sun and warmth any day.

I LOVE snow! It's so cold and white and fluffy!

Love to look at it when it first falls but don't like having to travel in it.
GD was visiting her BF at his university and sent a photo of the snow and a Christmas tree, it looked like a pretty Christmas card.

We normally do that, Trip3, but this happened when I was still working and it was still very early in the morning and it was black ice which had formed overnight, so I couldn't even see the steps were slippery.

Trip3 Fri 22-Nov-24 06:23:29

MissInterpreted, re your terrible fall, I have learned that carefully and meticulously sweeping stone or concrete steps with a good broom after shoveling the snow off prevents any ice build up on the stairs and makes them significantly safer to use. It's something that really has to be kept on top of however. It doesn't take long at all for any snow that is left on such surfaces to turn into treacherous ice.
As for my own views of snow, I am overall not a fan of winter: the harsh cold, the slush and ice, the driving, the other drivers, all the necessary bundling up to go out. I rather wish I could just hibernate. As I've gotten older I find I more often than not just stay homebound as much as possible during that time of year. I'm in Canada so winters here can be quite severe. sunshine grin

I’ve got rock salt to put on my path from last year to save folks from slipping

Bonnybanko Fri 22-Nov-24 06:10:18

I love the snow I used to ski in it pre stroke

Ailsa43 Fri 22-Nov-24 05:47:24

I have no.idea why we're not prepared for snow in this country when in fact we get it almost every year.

Disgrace really !

Babs03 Thu 21-Nov-24 21:59:07

I loved it as a child because our small mill town near the Pennines would get cut off for days when the snow fell, the drifts would reach up to the window sills. It was magical.
So I still love it now but rarely see it anymore, not since the Beast from the East.
Haven’t had any during this cold snap.

Ziplok Thu 21-Nov-24 17:21:06

I’m not fond of the stuff. I don’t like driving in it and dislike it when it turns to slush. It looks nice in pictures, but the reality is not fun - cold and slippy.

Desdemona Thu 21-Nov-24 17:15:14

I'm a hater!!

TerriBull Thu 21-Nov-24 16:37:32

No I don't like it, for the simple reason we are not very geared up for dealing with it in this country, it seems to take us by surprise and so many things grind to a halt, it's difficult to get around as far as driving is concerned, the gritters are sometimes slow in getting out. I particularly hate it when it turns to ice, I've been super cautious since I broke an arm and the thought of icy, slippery pavement freaks me out.

Having said that, I appreciate that it can look picture box pretty.

biglouis Thu 21-Nov-24 16:31:15

I hate it.

My drive has a line of flags down the center and a gravel strip on either side. If it freezes the flags can be treacherous but the gravel bits are safe to walk on.

I have no transport or ability to purchase grit or shovel snow so I let it lie - and freeze if thats what happens. I know where to walk to be safe on the few occasions I venture outside in this weather. I do warn expected callers to be careful.

So if some unauthorised visitor/chugger/salesperson etc slips over too bad. Snow is an act of god.

My dreary winter garden was transformed into the most wonderful winter stage set this morning. It had snowed heavily from 3 a.m. onwards.

Calipso Thu 21-Nov-24 16:22:44

Team Love it!

Norah Thu 21-Nov-24 16:21:24

Love it, don't mind driving in it.

cornergran Thu 21-Nov-24 16:16:06

Love the idea of snow, the reality can be a bit different if I just go out. Otherwise a walk along the path by the river when snow is lying is magical as are the reflections from our garden lighting. I’m much more relaxed about it now there are no work commitments.

Me too GG13 and MOnica it’s rare down here too. This mornings brief episode was welcomed.

MissInterpreted Thu 21-Nov-24 15:15:04

I love it when it has first fallen and is all pristine and white. Not so keen on the ice and slush though. I actually don't mind driving in it either - it's other drivers who are the problem, who don't know how to drive in wintry conditions. I do get a bit scared of falling in icy conditions these days though - a few years ago I fell all the way down our outside stone steps, all 14 of them! I swear my life flashed before my eyes - I honestly thought that was it and my time was up. How I never broke any bones I will never know, although I was very shaken up and black and blue for weeks. Since then it's made me a bit wary,
