A banana taped to a wall with duct tape has been sold for £4.9m at an auction, we saw this on the news yesterday, if I had that sort of money I just think of all the good that could be done with it. What is the world coming to!

I know it's his money and he can do what he wants with it but 4.9 million for something that will rot in a few days?

The term ''more money than sense'' definitely applies to him!

Banana art is something I can laugh about. Misuse of an apostrophe? Never!!

Smileless2012 Mon 25-Nov-24 08:53:11

I heard that he wants to eat the banana to be fully immersed into the artistic experience hmm.

surfingsal Mon 25-Nov-24 08:41:58

The piece of so called art was purchased by a Chinese cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun who has said he will be eating the Banana this week.

MiniMoon

That is a lot of money for a perishable piece of "art." What will happen when the banana rots? Will he replace it with a fresh one? If so, it won't be original any more.
By the way, you don't need an apostrophe.

whoops I should have spotted that lol

poppysmum Mon 25-Nov-24 08:29:31

I always used to think art was an elitist kind of thing something I did not really understand but still liked some of the paintings etc, now we have piles of bricks, unmade beds and bananas what on earth sort of world are we living in

Allsorts Mon 25-Nov-24 06:25:23

Who is the nutter that bought it?

mum2three Mon 25-Nov-24 06:01:55

Was the banana sprayed with some sort of preservative? Otherwise it will have decomposed.

MiniMoon - I think my apostrophe is in the right place as per Chambers Dictionary 😂

Dear surfingsal
The plural of banana is bananas. No apostrophe whatsoever. Interestingly - and particularly relevant in this case - this mistake is sometimes termed as inserting a 'greengrocer's apostrophe'.

crazyH is not the original poster. I presumed she was referring to her own correct use of the apostrophe in the first word of her question.

grandMattie Mon 25-Nov-24 04:59:34

Hahaha! 🤪
I read in the paper that the purchaser will replace the banana every week/day, and consume the removed one.
Totally mad! Quite bananas….

TopGunner Mon 25-Nov-24 04:59:23

I am surprised that some demonstrator or another has not yet eaten it.

It’s absolutely bananas.

I saw this item on the news.
What a waste of a good piece of fruit!
Do you think it took the artist long to think of that idea?

srn63 Sun 24-Nov-24 23:34:42

Did the buyer get the wall as well?

Compost heap not the bin. Very good for your roses.

Oreo Sun 24-Nov-24 23:04:44

I’m waiting for a cleaner to tut tut and put it where it belongs, either in her pocket to snack on later or the bin.

25Avalon Sun 24-Nov-24 23:04:23

I think this whole topic is bananas!

MayBee70 Sun 24-Nov-24 23:02:10

Perhaps I meant bio degradable…

25Avalon Sun 24-Nov-24 23:01:11

Was thee banana an organic one? They taste much better. Whoops sorry we aren’t meant to eat it are we.

MayBee70 Sun 24-Nov-24 22:57:39

The most popular painting at Edinburghs gallery of modern art ( or so they told me when I was there) is Chris Ofilis elephant dung painting so people obviously like that sort of thing*
*ie organic

25Avalon Sun 24-Nov-24 22:56:46

Think of how many bananas you could buy with that money, or better still use for a worthwhile cause. Some people have more money than sense.

I really did find this ridiculous. I believe there's been instructions left to replace original banana.
I mean -- what good could that sort of money do for desperately in need people.
