A bit of a moan

I ordered some jeans from M@S the same ones I have had for three years, I ordered two pairs in different colours . I am a size 12 , the first pair I tried on were far to tight ! I am thinking time to go on a diet, the second pair I tried on were huge , I checked the labels both say size 12 , I then put the ones that were too small on top of the pair I have had a while and they were much smaller what is going on with sizes ?

What annoys me is that many companies who offer online shopping, are now complaining about too many returns. If only they all worked to the exact same sizes, and insisted that the people who manufacture the goods do the same, a lot of time and money could be saved, but it's always easier to complain than actually take action I find. Oh, and before anyone says anything, when I have had emails or seen notices on websites saying 'Please ensure that you check sizes before ordering, returns are expensive' or words to that effect, then yes, I do write to them and tell them, that if they were to get their sizing right, there would be no need to order in different sizes, and all too often, even if you do use the sizes they quote, measure yourself carefully, etc., they still don't fit! Sorry ladies, I'll step off my soap box now!

I recently bought a striped slash
neck long sleeve tee shirt which states on label 100% cotton and £9.50..
I should have read the reviews first then I wouldn't have got it.. dreadful.
I emailed a complaint . A reply stated they were puzzled by my saying it wasn't 100% cotton! It was full of elastic and rode up my 'belly' when I tried it on at home even though a 14.
I returned it by post to main customer service in chester . Got my money back but 100% misleading.

Yes BlueBelle we lost our MS from the next door town. The heart has gone out of their High Street.
There is one a 25 minute bus ride away. So that is lucky.
As Joni Mitchell (I think) would say " you don't know what you've got till it's gone".
I agree the sizing is crazy. And the quality inconsistent.

We no longer have an M&S in my town- there is a large shopping mall a few miles away but I only shop there if I'm really desperate.

In my local market town there are still a few clothes shops left which are pretty good with helpful staff- but my first stop is the charity shops.

So many bargains, for a good cause and saving the planet too. Win win really. I don't buy many clothes any more anyway...

I just go to the shop and try them on. Saves a lot of time and moaning!

Keepingquiet how do you go to a shop to try the clothes on if your town has none or very few clothes shops
Sounds good in theory but a bit superior if the shops aren’t there

I do not think I have posted on the Estrangement forum.

It’s really annoying isn’t it when ordering online when the sizes vary so much.I have a jumper that fits but the arms are long enough to suit a gorilla.I had to cut and hem them.
Even more annoying is that DP never has a problem with sizes in the menswear dept, he says they’re consistent. This is M&S am talking about.

First world problems, Get a life.

How rude!

Of course it is a first world problem because we live in the first world, Second or third or fourth world problems are different because they are appropriate to their worlds.

Although, given the internet there are probably people in India, Namibia or Uruguay who are fed up with the inconsistent sizing on M&S clothes they buy online.

I’ve just been to their outlet, utter rubbish! I don’t know how they keep going with the quality & prices they charge

And whats the one-size thats always left over in the sales - Long…

Maybe they keep the Long ones hidden away - I've had to visit three different M&S stores to find some Long jeans. I get very cheesed off when there are mainly Short sizes.

Kats2 Mon 02-Dec-24 14:10:18

And weirdly the short in the trouser measurement are no longer short..I’m 5”2 and M&S short were always perfect..I was complaining recently to one of their sales assistants and she said my mother says exactly the same thing..So i don’t buy their trousers anymore..I will sometimes go for their Capri trousers in the Summer..And whats the one-size thats always left over in the sales - Long…

I wonder whether M&S are sourcing their clothes from Far Eastern manufacturers. I no longer buy clothes made in China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, etc, as the makers seem to have a mental block when it comes to what they think of as a "normal" female shape! Maybe they think all women are slim and tiny, like little boys. If they do think "bigger" they generally just think "longer" so you get skinny trousers with loooong legs or tops long enough to come halfway down the thighs but the same width top-to-bottom. It's odd really, as European women are in general bigger than ever, in all directions, and surely the message would have got to even the remotest areas by now?!

Just looking at all the labels they state made in Bangladesh (for all 5 pairs of M&S jeggings I have) - though they all fit differently!

welshgirl2017 Mon 02-Dec-24 13:48:22

Same here......I've got 4 pairs of same design, but different colour M&S 'jeggins' all the same size allegedly.....but all fit differently! A couple are way too loose and baggy around the hips and others are on the tight side!

I bought my son a pair of trousers from Littlewoods years ago and found coinmarks in the pocket, someone had put on a new pair and left old ones on hanger!

A lot of online shops don't have a physical shop

Shelflife Mon 02-Dec-24 12:05:01

I take no notice of the M &S size label - they are never what I expect! Have given up thinking their size 16s are all the same - they are not !!!!
I always try on and take what fits regardless of what the label tells me.

Years ago I bought 2 pairs of trousers from M&S labelled as same size and style, but different colours. Only one pair fitted. I was told different colours are made in different countries.

Or........it may have been a case of re-labelling by a manufacturer to meet a specific size order - see my comment upthread, 29th November 12.42hrs. And I am not b*********ng, that did used to happen regularly.

Truffle43 Mon 02-Dec-24 06:15:03

I bought some thick tights this week medium to large thinking they would be big as I am a petite size 12.
Oh how wrong I was they wouldn’t go past my knees. I ended up with XXLarge which just fit. What on earth is going on.

I’ve just bought a set of three bras from M & S and half a dozen pairs of matching knickers. The bras are perfect, the size 12 knickers big enough to house a family of four. I couldn’t tell until I unwound them carefully from the totally unnecessary grippy plastic hangers they came with.

DH has dubbed them my Bridget Jones’.

Babs03 Fri 29-Nov-24 13:57:34

Chums make really good jeans, with comfortable stretch fabric and different leg lengths. Waist and inside leg measurements often asked for rather than stock sizes.
I never usually buy trousers from high street retailers without trying on but haven’t needed to do this with chums, the trousers are exactly what it says on the tin.

HousePlantQueen Fri 29-Nov-24 12:59:32

I am not excusing M&S, but I find that the same size, but different style of jeans can fit very differently.
