Coffee Cup Size

When travelling I take my own travel cup. Various cafes just fill it to that size, so at least I know what’s coming.

Americano, usually black, though a splash of cold milk if I can. I try to avoid being given a jug of milk as it always has far too much in it and that seems such a waste.

I like espresso.
That is very small.

I usually only use independent coffee shops and always order large but I was meeting a friend in Next.

Paying no attention at all I ordered a large cappuccino, it was huge like a bucket.

Serves me right and no I didn’t drink it all. But I did see someone have a hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows in that size cup!

Enough calories for the whole day I would think 🤔

Americano no milk for me too - always happy with Nero's or Esquires and some independents. Never Starbucks.

Some coffee cups are far too large for me! Like boats.

For me, an Americano is black - no milk

Well, I thought so until not long ago because I'd ask for a filter coffee, as I had done for years, expecting a normal coffee with milk in a jug, but now I get a puzzled look and they ask "do you mean Americano?"
I suppose I must do. confused

For me, an Americano is black - no mik.

I am always amazed by the massive cup sizes in UK Cafés- so exactly the opposite. Give me a smaller cup, with decent coffee, rather than a 'small' that is huge, full of diluted tasteless stuff.

We are all different, for sure.

Over the last month I have visited 4 different independent cafes in various towns in England. I chose to go to independent cafes rather than the national big name ones. I always drink an Americano (black coffee with cold milk). The size of the cup or mug was so small. Literally 4 gulps and it was empty. The smallest mug measured 2.5cm across at the base. Another cafe used small tea cups suitable for a small child. What an absolute rip off! They've taken shrinkflation too far. From now on if I go into an independent cafe I will ask to see the size of the mug before ordering. Alternatively I will go to a big chain coffee shop, at least I can get a decent quantity to drink.
