It is only the 3rd of January and so far youngest daughter (36) has just been admitted to hospital , she has an electrical problem with her heart and is waiting for surgery , she went to see our GP with a bad spell of endometriosis but he noticed she was breathless , he would not let her go home and sent her off in an ambulance she never got round to talking about the endometriosis. My mother and I had a visit from a lovely man from our surgery to discuss where she wants to die and all the options etc , so that was a happy conversation ..not! After all this my son phoned to say he has a kidney infection and his Dr was going to send him into hospital we are certainly getting our moneys worth from the NHS this week.

Oh dear - what a day for you. I hope that 3 good things come your way and that all your family members will be well soon.

Did your mother fill in a form and sign it? If so, you need to a copy in her kitchen. My mother had signed to say she wanted to die at home but when the time came the paramedics said she had to go to hospital. So there we were, her on the floor with them resuscitating her and my DH on the phone to the surgery who had trouble locating the form. We were told that you should have it pinned to the kitchen noticeboard Thankfully, the surgery finally found it. I hope both your DC are ok.

What a distressing day for you . I wish your DC good recoveries. Imarocker makes a very sound point. The conversation must have been hard - thinking of you and your family.

January does often tend to start off with bad news. I do sympathise right now with you and anyone with poorly relatives
We just heard of one death already one serious illness and one illness requiring urgent tests etc. It’s a dismal time of year for a lot of people in many ways take care of your nearest and dearest.

When I was taking down the few decorations I had, I had the most depressing thought - perhaps it’s the last time I’ll be doing this 🥲

Sorry you have all this to deal with, what a worry!
It doesn't matter what time of year it is there is always trouble for someone.
Sorry that this time that 'someone' is you and yours.
Wishing you all the strength to deal with this.

I have been at the hospital since 2pm today and got home at 10.30 tonight, A@E was packed my daughter has been in there since yesterday morning, she was eventually moved to what is normally the recovery room but they are using it as an overspill ward. Well shocked is an understatement, there were huge wheelie bins at the end of the room collecting the rain pouring in from the roof, the walls were mouldy and plug sockets had tape over them as they were to wet to be used. I had my eldest daughter with me and we were really loathed to leave youngest daughter there but she insisted we left as she was worried about us driving in this awful weather, I have to admit it made me cry, not just because of worrying about my daughter but the poor nurses working in such terrible conditions, we took photos and we will be writing to our MP and local newspapers , it is hard to believe thisis happening in 2025!

Gosh, surfingsal, that sounds shocking. I hope your actions can get things improved for the patients and staff.
And I hope your daughter and son are soon well again.

Grammaretto Sun 05-Jan-25 03:56:47

That is shocking surfingsal I hope that somehow your DD was treated and will be OK.

I haven't been to A&E for many years It sounds horrendous. I hope your actions and photos can alert more people with power to improve the situation.

I'm sorry your year has got off to such a bad start, but you are lucky to have such an efficient doctor. Most doctors are too busy to notice symptoms other than the one the patient is there for. Many people have died simply because a doctor missed vital clues to a condition.
