Walking tv presenters!

Why? It drives me potty.
Presenters never just stand still and present. They have to be striding along. They even do it when they interview people. Last week Michael Portillo was talking to someone as they walked down a featureless school corridor. It must be very distracting for the interviewee and it adds nothing for the viewer.
Another trend is for a presenter who is going to a particular house to start off at the far end of the street. Are we meant to believe they walked all the way from the studio?
And then there are the presenters who carry out interviews in the middle of a field - for no apparent reason.
I know I'm ranting but do they think we aren't capable of concentrating on someone who stands still?

And, while we’re at it, what about those who present and/or carry out interviews while driving a car. Why????

Are they really driving or is it AI?

And presenters who conduct interviews from the comfort of the studio with the added support from notes and information on their computer in front of them, with an individual standing outside an office building in a very busy, noisy street.

None as bad as those standing near the coast in a storm, telling the rest of us it's too dangerous to go outside!

I’ve always wondered what we are supposed to learn from a reporter in front of a Police cordon where there’s been some sort of serious incident, when it could easily be included in the news bulletin and perhaps accompanied by stock photographs of the location. Similarly, if there’s a raging storm with lots of damage, why sent an OB team to risk themselves and possibly hamper rescue efforts?

I think it’s just jobs for the boys (and girls).

My pet hate is when a presenter does a piece to camera and leans against a wall or door frame.
Why can’t they just stand up straight?

Exactly! I was around at the time of the 1987 hurricane and they even did it then! And that was when roofs were flying off houses! Madness.

I agree. How much does it cost to send the reporter to stand outside a Police station, sometimes in vile and dangerous weather? QThe incident didn’t happen there, so what does it prove?

I recently watched a lifestyle show , that had been filmed unknown to me in a house in my street, the presenter done a piece at the end where he walked down the street along side my garden wall, you could see my clothes line, I did say to my DH, lucky I hadn't pegged out that day otherwise our undies would have been on the TV.😂

We play a game in our house called Pointless Locations.
Watching the news we have to spot the reporter in the most pointless location e.g. Outside a completely dark and deserted Royal Courts of Justice at 10pm talking about a court case that day or on the roof terrace of Broadcasting House, umbrella up, under a blanket of thick cloud and steady drizzle to tell us about a comet that none of us will ever see because of the cloud.

I thought from the title you were talking about Weatherman Walking, which Welsh Gransnetters will know well.

Wyje Sat 19-Apr-25 20:42:59

Totally agree, it's infuriating!

Jaxjacky Sat 19-Apr-25 21:06:39

I’ve watch Weatherman Walking in the south of England on BBC1 Casdon I enjoy it.

I wonder if it’s the same one Jaxjacky, ours is Derek Brockway, he has been doing it around Wales for years - at least 10 I think.

Jaxjacky Sat 19-Apr-25 21:33:52

Just checked Casdon yes, a very affable chap, an pleasant watch.

Casdon Sat 19-Apr-25 21:41:45

He is good - I didn’t realise his programme had spread outside Wales.

Jaxjacky Sat 19-Apr-25 22:08:54

I watched him swim in a decidedly cold looking sea last week!

Allira Sat 19-Apr-25 22:42:13

Derek swam in the River Wye too.
He's braver than me 😁
