Flipping Flies!!!

I've heard that half a lemon studded with cloves on window sills keeps them out. Nice smell too. Don't know if it works but worth a try.
One of the reasons I quite like winter. No flying beasties invading my house.

I tried that yesterday - made no difference at all!

Red Top fly trap hung outside the door/windows works well, we used them a lot in Françe when we were inundated.

Ilk a farmer's wife, and as soon as the cows go out after their winter indoors, the flies arrive. I do find the fly spray sold in the agricultural merchants' shops is superior to the supermarket varieties.
It might be worth looking for such places in your local town, often on trading estates on the edge of town. My present tin is called Digrain Control and its made by a firm called Lodi UK. Places like Amazon might have it. It says for professional use only ............

ViceVersa it's because they can enter through small openings, like cracks and gaps, due to factors like air pressure and their visual limitations. They may also be drawn into a space by scents like food or rubbish. Once inside, they might have difficulty navigating back out because they lack the sophisticated navigation skills of larger flying insects!

I know what you mean and I sympathize!

I use Raid and I grab a tea towel and flick them to death and I scared one this morning when I went into the shower and there was one buzzing so I quickly turned the water on and half drowned the little bugger!

I've also dropped heavy slate drinks coasters on them and other heavy objects!

I know they can't help being what they are but they're vile! It's one of the reasons I have always hated summer/sun/heat because of so many creepy crawlies, including those with 8 legs!

A work colleague has several Venus Fly Trap's but there's no way in a bazillion years I'd ever have those as I'm phobic of them, horrible things!

They usually commit harikiri overnight in the conservatory. Why, I have no idea.

Friends in Devon who were plagued every summer eventually resorted to old fashioned sticky fly papers. They’re pretty gross things, but did seem to work. They were in a rural area, fields of sheep etc. nearby.
From all I’ve seen, where you’ve got fields of animal poo, you get flies. Same (only worse!) at a BiL’s place in France - rural Burgundy,

There’s a plant you need, Shoo fly. Supposed to work!

Years ago I used to make pie called Shoo fly pie.

After a few years with few insects they seem to be back in force this year, aphids are very numerous, car windscreen is covered. We also have more house flies than usual, not too many wasps yet but very early for them.

Just be thankful you don't live in Oz!

I have pots of mint at the door, it’s supposed to deter flies and I must say we rarely have flies in the house.

I don't mind the little fruit flies, but hate bluebottles & the bigger ones. I couldn't cope with leaving the doors closed in the summer though - I like to get some fresh air while I can without getting frozen.
We had a huge maybug in - really don't like those.

We have a zapper, doesn’t work, spray plays havoc with my nose!

I HATE flies! Every summer I take care to keep all doors and windows closed, but then some well meaning person calls and leaves the door open "for some fresh air". I have been inundated with the little buggers since Wednesday and they`re driving me mad! I have an electronic fly zapper, they`re ignoring it, plus liberal use of fly spray, useless. HELP!!

Oh I know what you mean,

Only in our case, the fly zapper works.
But we have not yet had the huge numbers.
