Beds in the study?

I treat Grandkids as if they wre my ownkids in this type of thing.
I wouldnt dream of not giving them proper beds if they needed them.

My strapping great GSs are into DofE, scouts etc. - a blow-up bed on the floor would be luxury in their eyes!

He cannot dictate what furniture you have in your house!!!

I am a definite yes on this.
Though I know from a thread a few months ago, i may have been in a bit of a minority.

I don't use the computer as it is so slow but I can't access stuff stored on it like photos.The table takes up a lot of room so it could go. The parents seem in favour of getting beds so I think I will have to agree and get stuff moved around.

A couple of houses ago, we turned the 4th bedroom into a study, I was working from home sometimes, so it had a desk, desk top computer, some shelving etc. When we came to sell the estate agent, said something along the lines of "you should put some sort of bed in here, otherwise it's not properly defined as to what this room is for" doh! We didn't take his stupid advice, if prospective buyers couldn't work out what a 4th bedroom is for, anything they want really! then more fool them.

Ages ago we bought an armless, very easily pulled out, double sofa bed for our smallest bedroom - for occasional use. The room is now dh’s lair (study) plus home of the ironing board, etc.

Since they were very small the 2 elder Gdcs shared the sofa bed (it’s very low so no worries about falling out) and now there are 3 of them (eldest is 10) they still do, all cuddled up like puppies. They have been offered a king size to share but turned it down!

It’s been a very good buy, but when we bought it so long ago I never dreamt of Gdcs using it!

Ours used to argue over who had the Aerobed, they loved it. Blown up to normal bed height and made up it looked no different to the permanent single bed in the room.

Personally I’d have a concern about them sharing a bed if they aren’t used to it. Sofa beds and pull out beds don’t tend to be the widest. As ours became teenage they hated sharing bed space. Lots of complaints about elbows and knees along with duvet stealing. One often opted out and slept on the floor or the sofa. The boys will be growing!

If blow up beds meant the boys could no longer stay I’d go along with a change with crossed fingers. Another thought is about the type of blow up bed. If yours are the smaller ones perhaps a compromise could be to change them to the more substantial type. I also wonder what the boys think.

I don’t envy you this one. Hope there can be an outcome that means the boys keep coming and you can still use your room comfortably.

I suppose it depends on how much you need a study and how much room is taken up by your computer equipment. I do all my online work on my smartphone and on the rare occasions I want to print something I do it in the local library.

I’ve recently downsized from my 4 bed family home of 40 years to a 2 bed bungalow. While house hunting for a bungalow I ruled out any that didn’t have a 2nd bedroom which would accommodate a set of bunk beds and a single bed for visiting grandchildren.

I think the sofa bed sounds a good compromise as it’s folded neatly away when not in use. That’s assuming the boys are happy to share a bed.

What sort of blow up beds are they? If li-lo type on the floor I can see where your son is coming from. I have two teenage grandsons who are six feet tall and we have aerobeds, they inflate when you plug them in to an electric socket. They love them and say how comfortable they are. The beds rise to normal bed height and come with valances and quilted mattress protectors. They are quite wide though and you might struggle to get two in your study/computer room. We just about get them in ours, it's a bit of a squeeze but I can really recommend them. As an earlier post, do whatever it takes, they grow up so quickly and soon will want to be staying with their friends instead of Nanny and Grandad. ! Enjoy them while you can.

DS said a similar thing to me so I just bought a sofa bed! Their visits are too special to worry about it, you might even enjoy the sofa for a quick snooze!

What do the boys parents think?

They’ll sleep on worse when they’re teenagers round at their friends after a night out😬

My 12 and 14 year old grandsons sleep on camp beds when they stay with us and never complain, even though they are growing fast.

However I hate to say it but I would give in, just so that I could have the boys to stay.
