Hello all!

A BIG birthday this weekend and I would like to do a mini UK road trip on my own! But absolutely no idea where to go!

Does anyone know of exciting or quirky events happening in the next two days? Could be a big fete or county show, a historical celebration, regatta or carnival. Or something
smaller and quirky in a beautiful area I can explore.

I know IABU to ask here as Google and What's On sites exist, but there's so much choice, it's overwhelming, I don't know where to start! I'm after more local knowledge. Maybe ecommendations for things I've never heard of? It doesn't even have to be an event really, just suggestions for a great day out!

Fairly active, so walking/driving/transport anywhere is no problem. Please hit me with your ideas!

Thank you so much!

PS. My big birthday sort of transitions me to Gransnet from Mumsnet. I've been between the two for about a decade so have asked the same question on both to get maximum ideas! Hope that's ok 👍

Happy birthday for the weekend and welcome from over the ‘other side’
But you don’t give any idea of area ….you d hardly want to do a ‘day’ trip in Cornwall if you live in Aberdeen 🤣🤣
Probably have to pare it down a bit to get some good answers

I've never been to theCoffin Museum in Birmingham but keep thinking I'd like to go...

However if you want a trip I'd probably like a mystery tour.
I'd start somewhere with a quirky name- say "Plush" in Dorset or "Bitchfield" in Lincolnshire and then ask someone I met there where to go next.
I'd go into a pub, coffee bar or even just a shop to ask.

Two days isn't very long.. but every area has something quirky and fabulous.

Have fun.

I suppose I'd be as interested in the random strangers I'd meet as I would be in the "road trip" aspect.

Alternatively you could follow an ancient route such as Fosse Way - or one you can walk -or say, the Cambrian Way.

Thank you -I should have said that, sorry. I'm starting out from the Midlands, so good transport links in any direction!

Beamish in County Durham is a fantastic day out. It’s the living museum of the North. Although it’s spread over a large area there are vintage hop on / off buses. Everything except food and drink is included in the entry ticket.
It’s currently Museum of the year.
Of course it does depend on where you live, OP.

Black Country Museum is great, as is Ironbridge and Blist Hill museums. You could walk up the Wrekin or go to the Stiperstones. Or just drive and wander around Shropshire!
