BIrthdays are just a date on the calender. Working parents with school aged children have such a balancing act with regards to holidays, do not think that my birthday should be a consideration for them.
Next year (if I make it) I will be 85. AND.....that falls neatly on a Saturday. So, I decided to splash out and have a lovely big family celebration with a boat outing on the Saturday afternoon, and a lovely meal that evening - all paid for by me. Not possible, as my birthday falls towards the end of the exam season and three of my younger g.children will be involved in their GCSE's.
So, cancel that birthday celebration - actually I have postponed it by a fortnight, so it will not interfere with these exams. Does it matter that it is not actually on my birthday? Not at all More important that they should all be able to come and join me - probably for the last time for such a large family get-together (looking at 24 plus people).
It is all part of being a parent/g.parent.
