Multipacks - why do you get at least one unusable item.

Many suppliers offer multipacks of things like socks, pants and T-shirts at apparently good value. However I often find that at least one item in the pack is one that I would never wear.
For example a pack of 4 tasteful spotted socks with one pair in tiger stripes. Another, a pack of four T-shirts, white, grey, black and orange!
Is it just a way of getting rid of products that otherwise would not sell?

Cotton Traders annoy me. They sell tops in pairs but you can’t pick you colours and I always want one of each pair

i need some new knickers and saw a 6 pack 2 black ideal for under my black leggings 2 white ideal for dresses then 2 grey which looked like badly washed worn out knickers yukky

The advantage of grey knicker is it doesn’t matter what you wash them with

This morning I bought a pack of three pairs of knickers size 12/14. When I opened them, I found that one of them is definitely extra large. Did someone buy a pack of 16/18 and found one pair she will never get past her knees?

I always buy multiple packs of M & S nudes coloured knickers as you can wear them with anything. A very wise woman gave me the tip before my wedding day & I was glad she had - we were at a wedding soon after ours and the bride wore white knickers under her white dress - we could all see them. Same goes for white knickers under white trousers..oo no! I pass the tip on for what it's worth. I agree about multiple things, especially socks, there's always one hideous pair to get what you want!!

Green under white sometimes works!
I used a green bra under a white blouse. Worked well in the circumstances at the time.

I find that multi packs of fruit and veg always have one which is blemished . I imagine that they have two packing lines, one is OK and the other is a blemished line I always imagine the LIDL lemon packers picking up 3 from one side and one from the other to put them in the net.
Very annoying when you want to use the peel in jam making

Always want 2 white bras, but only come in packs of 1 white and 1 random colour, better off paying xtra for 1 white bra, as the other 1 will never get used

I bought a 3 pack of tops from Temu - very reasonable price - but I will only wear the blue and the silver.grey ones. I don't wear orange. Thinking of trying to sell on Vinted as it is still in its unopened bag but not sure of the process. Will get round to it eventually.

Wear it under a jumper or in bed.

This is a similar issue to the Original Poster. I have been sent gifts of hampers for birthday, Christmas and Easter this year. For the M&S hampers they were a lovely selection. However, the biscuits all had best before dates for them to be eaten within 2 weeks. I feel that when family or friends order these hampers, that the Suppliers purposely give the oldest stock, really annoying as the M&S shops wont deal with refunds or replace them. The same has happened when I have purchased food items or spices from Amazon; always a short best before date, ie 200mg to be used within 3 weeks!

Another colour which is great for bras and trousers under white is would you believe it RED.

Multipacks of crisps where you end up left with loads of prawn cocktail left over!

Mojack26 Sun 05-Oct-25 08:01:02

Jocork. It's from Temu so it's not expensive give it to charity!

I will swap your prawn cocktail for our salt and vinegar.

Any food bank or charity will take clothing, but yes it is annoying not to have a choice.

This is good! Son always brings me the prawn cocktail crisps. I have tried to point out it may be cheaper for him if he just bought 2 packs of the single flavours he likes, plus it would stop me from eating crisps.

Tinlizzy67 M&S don’t give old stock-we’ve ordered hampers for various friends and relatives for the past 5 years or so, and M&S point out that some of the products will have 2 weeks life, and that some items may have more, on the order page.
In the case of sponge cakes it’s two days.
I didn’t realise this at first, and apologised to our older friend if she had been disappointed. ‘Oh no’ she said ‘I invited son and grandchildren round we had a lovely tea and it was all gone in half an hour, let alone 2 days’grin

If the two are cheaper, buy them and donate the unwanted one to breast cancer or smalls for all, but if you cannot be bothered to send, then give to your local charity shop

Except that the value of these items is so low that even charity shops don’t want them. They are of no value in the resale/rag market either. Sadly, this unwanted top will likely end up floating around in the ocean somewhere, or being burned in a big toxic bonfire in the beach on Ghana.

Same with toiletries - I hate getting body lotion. Put extra shower gel or a deodorant 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣
