Given all the criticism of the Met nowadays think I'd want to keep quiet about 5 years service

Are you suggesting that all Met police officers are corrupt?

I heard he had 5 years police service and that it was quite a while ago. I had 12 years nursing quite a while ago and no way would I describe myself as a nurse nowadays. Given all the criticism of the Met nowadays think I'd want to keep quiet about 5 years service

You do know he rejoined the Met in 2020 to help out with the covid crisis? So not just a former policeman, a pretty recent one too.

nasty facial hair

Ooh, that is rather nasty.

I take it you dislike beards and in fact many men have a receding hairline. Some women have thinning hair too.

Never heard of him, mind you I don't watch TV so that's probably why

TanaMa Thu 29-Jan-26 13:52:07

I think he is good on the Scam subjects he discusses - just don't like his latest look - nasty facial hair with his retreating hairline disguised with forward combed hair!! Makes him look dirty, in need of a good wash!!

Not all the Met are rogues.

Our GS and his wife definitely aren’t.

Four years in the army first, he had to leave on medical grounds when he had a serious break to a leg.

Georgesgran Wed 28-Jan-26 18:09:04

Also British Transport Police and Security Guard at Harrods, but I suppose Ex-detective just sounds better?

Oldnproud Wed 28-Jan-26 18:03:36

Who? I don't recall hearing that name before.
That said I am dreadful at remembering names and faces, so I find such introductions helpful.

MartavTaurus Wed 28-Jan-26 17:35:01

Maybe because he had a proper job before becoming a presenter, having served in the Met for nearly a decade. Just as Judge Rinder was a barrister for 15 years. A lot of celebrity presenters haven't actually been in the real world outside TV, so perhaps it's refreshing to be reminded that a few have.

BridgetPark Wed 28-Jan-26 17:18:21

AIBU in becoming irritated by the fact that almost every time he is introduced it is "former detective Rav Wilding". I think we all know by now he was a detective some years ago, but why do they still feel they need to hammer it home? Anybody else find this irritating?
