Thinking of selling due to heat

Currently sweltering here in north Cambridgeshire. I do early morning cleaning when it's pleasant enough, I get home at 9am ish and it's already too hot to water the garden.
It never lasts very long really though...

Just looked at some sites today, Currys, John Lewis, Argos as interested in buying a mobile air con unit but they are all completely sold out, even the expensive ones.

Buy a couple of portable free standing air conditioners and a couple of fans fgs

I expect we all do, and what of it? This heat can be dangerous for older people just as severe cold can be.

Nova are brilliant. Cheapest way to get an outside room. We added screens so that if it’s raining but warm we can still sit outside.

Our friends decided to move back up North. They found it impossible to integrate into their local community (very lively and kind people) they came back after two years. I read an article a few years ago about their perils of leaving big cities. Transport, access to health care, always traveling back to visit family and friends. The novelty of friends coming to visit you soon wears off!

Most of the time I’d rather live in London than in the NW where I do live, but at the moment I’m grateful to be where the temperatures are lower. I dream of moving to Stornoway, where it never seems to get really hot.

I know this isn't a solution but would it be possible to take a taxi to a shopping mall/supermarket when it is very hot and get a little exercise and window shopping there.

I know a lady who returned to the UK from Spain because of the weather which is understandable since the summer temperature in Spain is unbearably hot in the mid 40 degree C.

If you decide to move, make sure there is a significant difference in temperature between London vs North Lancashire to make it worth the effort.

Moving will be very stressful to you; everything will be down to you since your husband is not well and cannot do much to help.

On the recommendation of my daughter, I have bought a more powerful fan- Shark Flexbreeze. I did not realise that extreme heat can be dangerous to older people such as my DH. If we have another heatwave next year, I will consider installing aircon in our master bedroom.

I mentioned the heatwave to my sister; they live near the equator. They told me that their governments carried out cloud seeding operations – sent a helicopter to certain areas and spray salt to encourage precipitation and rain.

I was so surprised. I really thought cloud seeding and weather modifications fall under conspiracy theories.

Now I know this might sound a tad dramatic but here in London high temps are becoming the norm over the past few years. We live in a house that would need a lot spending on it to install AC and we still wouldn’t be able to go out during the day due to the heat. I am a full time carer for my husband and am finding the continued extreme heat depressing and exhausting. Am therefore wondering if we should move back to North Lancashire where we are from originally and where temps have been much lower and bearable. The only difficulty is that we would not be near our daughters and with one DD having a health crisis right now it has been good to be nearby.
But can think of no easy solution to this. ATM we are sitting in a house where the curtains are closed all day and we can’t go out because temps are already over 30 degrees.

I’m in Lancashire, it might be a few degrees lower but trust me it’s still baking hot you really wouldn’t be much better off at all

You have got us thinking, Fallingstar.
I get the impression you would rather stay in London, for important family reasons.
Posters have commented that it can get too hot up north as well.
By the time you arranged a move, the weather would be cooler.
From what I read, you need 3 things.
A cold room.
A solution to the overheating conservatory.
A way to make your back yard comfortable.
Air cons may be sold out just now, but they will come back into stock. Research which one is best for you. Some Posters have helped with this upthread.
Check out the suggestions, again upthread, about cooling your conservatory.
How do people in hot countries keep their gardens/back yards cool? Research online.
Worried about not being able to go outside to exercise? Just remember that we all managed the 12 week lockdown.
