Back to your GP and you need stronger pain relief with anti inflammatory meds also muscle relaxant at night. When you have a full diagnosis it can all be reviewed.

Agree with tanith, you have to keep on ay your GP until they take you seriously. I hope you can get some sleep tonight.

Have you tried Voltarol until you get a GP appointment?

Try an ice pack or frozen peas in the small of your back for 10 minutes or so to numb the pain.

Alternatively try a hot water bottle or a wheat bag heated in the microwave is also some relief.

I wish you well.

Amitriptyline at night (on prescription) can really help with pain and sleep.

How old is your mattress? And your pillows?

Sleeping on an unsuitable mattress won't improve matters,

Next point to consider is your shoes. You physiotherapist should be able to advise about both mattress, pillows and shoes.

What kind of chairs are you sitting on or in, and does it make any difference if you sit on a hard chair or a soft chair?

Obviously, the pain-killers you are taking are not helping enough or at all, but you need to take that up with your doctor.

Whatever you do, do not exceed the daily dosage stated as maximum on the package or combine different pain-killers unless you doctor has told you specifically that doing either of these things is not dangerous.

Dawn62 as well as heeding all the excellent advice above as it seems you’re looking for immediate relief, please do have a look at the Hips and Knees thread of the Health forum (with the dancing girls, it’s on its 7th reincarnation). Something I’ve learnt over the past couple of years since my hip replacement is that everything is connected & if you can get your back sorted then your hip problem may be relieved and vice versa. Please keep in touch with us. We’re here to help and support you.

I would make an appointment to visit a Chiropractor. I had sciatica a while back and wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy. A friend recommended a Chiropractor visit and after just a few visits he fixed the problem for me. I highly recommend you give it a try. I paid £30 for a consultation and going forward I paid £35 per treatment . As I am pain free it was worth every penny. He also did some acupuncture as well as manipulation.

So sorry to hear about your pain. I have been through similar issues and kept going to the gp/doing physio/taking painkillers until I was eventually referred for an mri and xray. Turned out to be pinched nerves in my lumbar spine for which I have just had an operation. Please do keep going back until you get some answers and a specialist referral.

I am experiencing intense, really intense, itchy arms from my shoulder to elbow only and mostly on left arm. The itching wakes me, I seem to spend the whole night itching my arm and have caused my arm to bruise. I have tried every cream the doctor has given me. I have tried antihistamine even the stronger phenergan from the Doctor. Has anybody had this experience? I am OCD in cleanliness and my bed and pillows are all new and of good quality. I am at a loss to what this maybe.

I have had back and hip pain for the last 10 years due to spinal stenosis I have tried everything I’m on Tapentadol prescribed by the pain clinic, which is apparently an opioid that is prescribed when all else fails, it doesn’t really ease the pain completely I also use FlexiQ which I have from amazon it’s a little pricey but it’s the only topical medication that has helped

I had severe spasms in the side of my mid back. At first, visits to an osteopath helped. When that stopped working, only 60 mg of codeine worked.
I have found a British, acupuncturist who trained in China for 6 years. It is like magic. No more pain and no more pills. I have in the past tried places with a Chinese person, but that didn't work.
I wasn't helped.
I wish all those in pain success in finding something that works for you.

Same here! acupuncture sorted it out for me having tried physio, chiropractor, osteo etc.

If I ever get a twinge of sciatica now I go and have a session or two.

I feel your pain though.

Dorset I’m currently suffering same on my shins and in the nape of my neck Dr has given me antihistamine cream and tablets not a lot of relief happening though
I have had this before and it goes eventually but in the meantime I think I’m going to make some scratch mittens to try to keep at least some skin on my bones

I broke a vertebra in a fall and suffered back pain for a long time. One medication that really affected me badly was the combination of Tramadol and Valium. The idea was to kill the pain and relax the muscles, but the effect on my mind was awful. I only lasted 4 days on them. Just a little warning.
I hope the medics can sort out the cause of all your pain and set you on the path to a happier future.
