How do you cope with this awful hot weather? I feel this has been a wasted day because I couln't do anything.I had my washing out at 8.30a.m. cleaned the kitchen(well, tidied the tops)made some bread rolls and by 9.30a.m. felt I should have another shower!I have sat in the shade in the garden, sat indoors and had lots of drinks but had no energy to make a meal. Now the weatherman says it will be the same tomorrow!I'm hoping for a thunder shower!!Norfolk is a lovely place to live but not today.

geordiejoy such a shame you don't enjoy this hot weather it won't be long before we are complaining about the winter weather will it ? Just a quick tip for when you find it unbearable go into your bathroom and run cold water over your wrists whilst they are turned up side down, the cold water will cool your blood and you you will feel the benefit almost straight away do it as often as you need it may help you cope better smile

glammanana thanks for the tip which I had tried.I got desperate enough to stand at the fridge with the door open for a minutes relief!!Today seems less hot with a breeze.I was in the garden for 4hrs thismorning 'til it rained big drops for 5mns

Was it in 'The Seven Year Itch* that Marilyn Monroe's character kept her knickers in the freezer during a heat wave?

JO4 Sun 19-Aug-12 17:30:33

It's hotter out in the garden than indoors. And even in here the sweat is trickling down my face. (Sorry if TMI smile)

(I have just had a cup of tea so that didn't help)

I went swimming in Lake Geneva today - the water temperature was perfect.
I miss having a little pool, but I don't miss having to filter, clean or empty it every year.

My god! Is she more likely to
1 fall off an alp
2 drown swimming
3 get eaten by a shark
4 hung by her children?

Annobel Sun 19-Aug-12 18:08:14

Preferably none of the above before I go to visit her. grin

jeni Sun 19-Aug-12 18:20:10

You hope! wink

Well I am loving the lovely sunshine and warmth after returning yesterday from a week in Cornwall with torrential rain, mist and gales (all together - how do they do that?) Such a shame as it was a family holiday with DS and DiL their 2 DGs and our DD's DD and DS (ages 10, 9, 7 and 7) We managed to get out every day and even onto the beach twice but it was a case of stiff upper lip from all concerned. "Character building" my DH said! Glad to relax and be quiet today, in the sun. Why are children so noisy when in a group?

Butternut Sun 19-Aug-12 19:50:38

J - Here's a tip for hot nekkid feet. Outside, get a watering can full and pour, slowly, over your feet and ankles. (Preferably get someone else to do it) Another bliss moment. grin

Had nearly 3 months of hot weather here! Even the Italians are fed up because it started so early this year!! 40c + and it's supposed to continue till the end of Aug. Fortunately we are going to England next week so we will cool down rapidly! It's hard deciding what to pack as the thought of jeans and trainers makes me shuddersunshine

JO4 Mon 20-Aug-12 12:12:37

Butternut I'll give that a try - if 'he' can be persuaded. grin

For the first part of this year all I heard in the news from the deep 'sarf' was 'we need rain'. Well, the south got rain and then it was -' we've got too much rain, we need some summer'; well, summer's arrived in the south and now it's ' it's too hot, we need rain'. For heavens sake south, make the most of it; soon it'll be winter and then it'll be ' we've got a hosepipe ban, we need rain' and then it'll be 'we've got half an inch of snow and everything's come to a halt - what shall we do?? OMG grinwinkwink

JO4 Mon 20-Aug-12 13:49:17

Ok! Ok!

We get the message. hmm

grin

JO4 Mon 20-Aug-12 13:52:05

And where are you at the moment Mrs?

Somewhere where it's a nice temperate 17 degrees. (I googled it)
