Lake District in the 70s

We scattered my fil's ashes next to Wainwright's. I think his wife regrets it as she can't get up there anymore. It was his favourite walk.

We bought our touring caravan in 1983 mainly because we had discovered the Lake District. We first went in the 70's with our young children but they preferred seaside holidays but they did go with us when we discovered walking.
We went several times a year and did most of the major walks and our own ramblings. It was a wonderful time.
I can't walk more than 200 yards now but nothing can take those years away.

Not the 70s, but the late 50s before I was married we used to go rock climbing there. There was one week with constant rain and we decided to go home. Then returned in the 90s and rented a cottage in Little Langdale a few times.

In the 70s we went with the children mostly to the Peak District, camping, as it was closer to Hull where we were living at the time.

We had our honeymoon in the Lake District in July 1972. It rained...every day, and the lakes were flooded. Our holiday purchases were waterproof climbing boots and raincoats. What we saw of it (not a lot) was beautiful so we decided to visit again for a few days late 80's.

And yes, it rained.....every day!

There was a rumour that after Wainwright became well known he used to hide behind a handy rock to avoid admirers!!
