Oxfam's Mother's Day card appeal has, in my opinion, none of the troubling connotations and implications that the selfie campaign has while still being a "cool" marketing fundraising ploy.

Forgive me for asking Bags what do you mean by troubling connotations ?
Don"t get it ?

They were mentioned on the selfie thread, nonu – the implication, for instance, that being a makeupless woman in public is anything remarkable. That, to me, is a troubling connotation.

Yes I agree Bags.
To be fair to Cancer Research though, they didn't initiate the selfie campaign.

I think more women go without makeup these days, though, perhaps reserving it for nights out. However, I have been out of the world of work for some time now, so may be out of touch somewhat.

Whatever the medium, it caught the imagination of a lot of people and it worked for this campaign. Some things touch people's heart, but you can't always plan it that way.
