Book Title by Their Authors (Parlour Game)
A terrible crime unpunished!! Imho 🙄
So…..what are we all up to on this beautiful sunny bank holiday? ☀️
The Charity Commission has now found that the charity in Tom Moore's name was mismanaged and was subject to misconduct, with his daughter and her husband personally benefitting from the operation.
So does that mean that Sir Tom obtained his knighthood under false pretences?
What a sordid mess the whole thing is.
Aber57 I wasn't aware of the programme. What channel was it on please?
Did you learn anything new?
Did anybody watch the Scams & Scandals 'Captain Tom What went wrong'. Told a lot of what went wrong. Very interesting.
I just could not get my head around the adulation. From the very start, he gave me the creeps especially after seeing an interview where he was going on with himself about "the ladies ho ho ho" portraying himself as a bit of a lad. Urgh! Not surprised he showed his true colours in his autobiography.

I'm pretty sure I never sang the praises of Tom and family, in any thread
It would be much like saying how much you admire Meghan (only worse) to say anything.
Incidentally, is nobody worried about Meghan and Harry these days? Please MissA don’t poke that particular bear. It’s been remarkably angst free recently
I worry about them all the time.

My goodness me, what a lot of finger-wagging "told you so", "never liked him", "something dodgy about him" lot!
His family has done the wrong thing and ruined the memory of what Captain Tom was trying to do with the best of intentions. However, he died in February 2021 and doubtless knew nothing about any of this.
Gransnetters thought he was an inspiration at the time.

How things change.Yes, things do change, but for good reason in this case. People can only go on what they see and know. What Sir Tom was doing was interesting, but I think the media got carried away and stirred us all up to a frenzy. We all admired him.
That said, if circumstances change, then feelings change and this is what happened here. His daughter has ruined her father’s reputation and shown herself to be a selfish money-grabbing apology for a daughter and she should be ashamed. This is why there ha# been this change in attitude towards this.I take your points, Crossstitchfan, but instead of commenting on what has happened, what his family has done since then, the thread is full of spiteful little comments about the man himself which no-one was making at the time.
Strange.
Sorry, I didn’t register the criticism of Sir Tom. I thought the criticism was all directed at the poisoned dwarf (Hannah)

There were others threads too.
No matter what Hannah and her husband have done, I can't understand why anyone would send hate mail to their 15 year old daughter; none of what happened had anything to do with her.
Thanks Everdene Far too much spent on management as per usual. I wonder how these people sleep at night……
GN is made up of many different posters, I wasnt on that thread and lots of people currently on this thread also dont appear on that thread. It therefore isnt strange at all. In the hysteria of the time it would have been almost impossible for someone to raise concerns.

I feel rather sorry for her children. They've been trundled out in every photo opportunity, including the disastrous Piers Morgan interview and I can't help but wonder what affect it's all had on them with their peer groups and friends. Poor kids.
Yes, I said that earlier too. Someone asked how old the children were. They were school children, the little girl was always dressed in pretty frocks (specially for the cameras?).

I never got with the whole thing I thought he was a game old boy but I felt it was all choreographed from the start and I didn’t join in the adulation However that’s not to do with him but the stuff going on around him I felt he was a pawn in a bigger story right from day one Sometimes you just get feelings
I’m glad I’m not the only one! I had a strange feeling about the daughter from the start and had a feeling she was after glory for herself. Sir Tom seemed lovely but to me, it seemed like he was a puppet under his daughter’s control. I’m afraid, even though it’s easy to say in hindsight, I disliked her intensely from the start.

I hope she is forced to repay to the charity the money she has pocketed. Exploitative, manipulative, greedy, self-seeking are words which come to mind to describe Hannah. Accepting £18000 for an event when she was already being paid as a director is surely fraud?
It doesn’t impinge on the £39 million that went to the NHS charity.
👏👏👏👏👏

I found this old article (2022) which gives examples of how some of the money was spent by the hospitals and hospital trusts that received it.
Allsorts
I have read up on this since it was posted. What a greedy, manipulative daughter, who used her very old father for money she turns out to be. She and her husband have profited from a National Disaster and besmirched Tom Moores name. Truly hope the couple lose their home and pay everything back to charity, they deserve to be made an example of. Wheres the other daughter in all this?
I agree, awful people, her and her husband!
The small charities, being run by a handful of volunteers at best, just couldn't handle the vast amounts of money (£40 million I think?) that were coming in. Maybe some of it went on accountants fees to give advice on how to spend it while creaming some of it off themselves.
The charity commision should really be telling people where their money went.
It is a salutary lesson for us all I think.
I felt the whole thing was hyped up by the media , it was full on in our faces and I would leave the room or turn off tv radio . I didn't contribute . I help our small local charities. Do you know who I feel deeply for , the Ingram children, young adults at uni or school must have to put up with awful comments and bullying . They were made to sit in on the documentary which was on TV. I felt so sorry for them .
Poppyred
I think the money was intended to help all the NHS workers on Covid wards, ie counselling etc. I worked for the NHS at the time but didn’t hear of anyone who benefited from this money.
That's interesting.
