Have you heard of Lend With Care?

Instead of simply donating, you make a loan (min £15) to one or more people running or starting a small business in a low-income country.

The money is repaid and you can loan again with it.

If you use this link, you'll be given £15 to start you off (I don't get anything).

I am glad to hear of this. I used to lend through a charity called Deki, but they don't seem to operate in the same way any more. I always chose female recipients with businesses I could identify with, such as seamstresses needing sewing machines and materials. I reinvested the same sum multiple times.

I have heard of this too and think it’s great.

Thanks for highlighting

Thank you NittWitt! What a great scheme!

Very many thanks to people who have signed up.

I get nothing from the link, of course, but you get £15 for your first loan. 🌞

I need to peruse the website properly.
Will do it later today, as I've also added 15 pounds to the original offer. smile

NittWitt Mon 20-Jan-25 10:11:41

Brilliant, V3ra, and all who have signed up! sunshine

Well I've had a lot of fun looking through this website and choosing two people to loan to, so thank you for posting this NittWitt 🙂

I've used the link you gave for the first £15, and added a second £15.
I've gift-aided both so that adds a bit more.

I love the idea of seeing where my money goes, and who it helps.

It's such a good idea.
I'm so glad you posted about it.

I happily give to charities rather than expect to be repaid

That's nice.
If you look at the Lend With Care website you'll see it's more than that.

A friend has been lending for some years and he has always received his money back he then uses it again to help others. I was lucky enough to win a small amount on the lotto last night so have used that money to sponsor two people. Hope it helps them to fulfill their dreams.

theworriedwell Sun 19-Jan-25 20:20:34

Yes it is lovely. He's a young man who has a mum and younger siblings and is trying to build up his little shop. I hope he does well.

boheminan Sun 19-Jan-25 20:18:10

I agree theworriedwell it's a great feeling that (to me) quite a small amount of money has given a leg up to 4 people over the other side of the world, enabling them to achieve so much more than I probably would have done (I don't really need another dress). I will be helping out with Lend To Care as often as I can.

theworriedwell Sun 19-Jan-25 20:11:21

This might be silly but it has made me so happy. So I joined today and had the free £15 and added another £15. I funded two people, one woman one man. He only had 2 per cent of what he needed and I've just had a message to say he's got all his funding now. I'm looking forward to seeing his progress and when his loan is repaid I will pass it on to someone else.

I would imagine the recipients feel better about paying back a loan, than just accepting payouts. Let's face it, many big companies survive on loans.

Oopsadaisy1 Sun 19-Jan-25 19:15:04

I think it acts as a very small business loan rather than people accepting ‘Charity’. Some amounts are quite small but are obviously a lot of money to the people who need the loan.

Some people want money to restock their small shops in small towns in Africa, it’s very diverse and covers many countries, many of the ‘borrowers’ are women trying to earn money in their communities some involving Womens groups.

Oopsadaisy1 Sun 19-Jan-25 19:10:38

MrOops has been helping this Charity for over 2 yrs now, most of his money has been repaid and he is funding new borrowers to help their small businesses.

BlueBelle Sun 19-Jan-25 18:34:01

I was just thinking it would also make a nice present to my grandkids ( along with other things ) then they might keep it going after the original donation or would it come back to me ?

MissAdventure Sun 19-Jan-25 18:22:48

I really like the idea of lending a hand.
I've never heard of it, and I think it's excellent.

theworriedwell Sun 19-Jan-25 18:10:40

Yes I see it as donating but nice to see where it has gone and what it achieved. I give monthly to other charities that are special to me. I don't think one is better than another it is all positive.

Granniesunite Sun 19-Jan-25 18:07:47

We dont to take our donation back we just move it on to another person in need.

And so it just keeps rolling on..

NotSpaghetti Sun 19-Jan-25 18:04:16

BTW, I would rather donate

NotSpaghetti Sun 19-Jan-25 18:03:36

Lend With Care is part of Care International.

Here's the link if you'd rather donate:

If you are concerned about opening links, just Google the information given and check the website, to make ill informed judgements doesn't help anyone.
Fortunately others appreciate that the benefits of this kind of funding far outweigh traditional donations.

MissAdventure Sun 19-Jan-25 18:01:36

I first heard of lend with care here, and had meant to sign up, but had forgotten all about it.

I'll do it now, though.
