Tonight on BBC1

There is still so much good with our BBC.

I'm donating - will you?

None of your business, Allira.
I think a whole evening of mind numbing TV from the BBC is more than enough without being nudged on this forum.

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Nov-25 20:35:37

Yes Allira, £30 by phone, it's really easy - ring

I think they are great. I'm only watching the bits and bobs, not my style, but they fund so many organisations that really, really, help. over a 1000 (forget the exact number) for Mental health charities as so many young children/young people need support, some suicidal. then children with other disabilities, the other night a boxing club for boys and girls which had reduced anti social behaviour and given them focus and purpose thanks to the brill young man leading the club...

check them out anyway, here are just some

Lovely listening to the children's choir!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-Nov-25 20:38:24

Over the years I have dressed up, taken part in rather silly activities, shaken a tin round popular pubs for Children in Need.

I have never watched the Friday night programme, despite our national charity being highlighted and represented.

Thank goodness it is still supporting the vulnerable.

Smileless2012 Fri 14-Nov-25 20:39:17

Yes to donating but 'no' to watching.

Wyllow3 Fri 14-Nov-25 20:41:50

I would have liked the choir, need a programme for on-off viewing!

Allira Fri 14-Nov-25 20:48:15

DH needs to watch another programme now ...

Allira Fri 14-Nov-25 20:50:19

Sorry, it wasn't meant to demand you donate. It was just chat!
Some of these stories are heartbreaking.

Flippenheck no need for such rudeness.

I have watched here and there.
Right now I’m watching Ch 5 - ‘ unwrapping Tutenkhamun’.
I have watched several documentaries on this, but I remain fascinated ….

Mollygo Fri 14-Nov-25 21:50:08

Donated but not watching, though recorded for later.
Foyle’s war is frighteningly like current happenings.

Why such a rude post? 🙄

rafichagran Fri 14-Nov-25 21:58:19

No, not watching, forgot it was on. I have donated before but only when people have asked in the street.

Allira Fri 14-Nov-25 22:04:44

£45.507 million so far.
Helping young people.

It is sad, though, that we need charities to fill the gaps in Government failures.

Whether I donate or not is no one else’s business. The post just gives people the opportunity to brag about their generosity. To me, donating is not something to be publicised. We do it quietly, each according to their means and opinions.

Allira Sat 15-Nov-25 12:15:27

No need to join in if you find the thread not to your taste.

Maremia Sat 15-Nov-25 12:23:05

Back in the day, the offspring and friends played music outside the supermarkets, to collect for this Charity. It was always freeeeeezing.

Maremia Sat 15-Nov-25 12:23:28

Nice to see a happy post on GN.

I didn't intend to virtue signal.

It's just that some of the stories of these brave children can bring you to tears and Children in Need brings opportunities to so many of them that they would otherwise would not have.

Desdemona Sat 15-Nov-25 13:58:01

People may feel obligated to donate when they cannot afford to and have poor children in their own families.

Hopefully they don't feel they have to and that those with spare income for such things can do so.

Fundamentally it is a good thing. Not sure how much it costs to administrate and how much the bosses are paid to do it?

Personally I saw it as a chance to encourage others so I named my giving and gave the telephone number to donate. No one is being pressured. Giving £2 is enough. Widows mite, as valuable as any other amount. As it happens, it is great deal for me to give, but my DGD benefits as she is severely disabled. Its for her.

It really appears to me, at least, you are set to pour cold water over a great venture by trying to accuse others of virtue signalling

When in fact you remain beef, to quote, is " a whole evening of mind numbing TV from the BBC"

Current total raised: over forty five and a half million pounds

Crossstitchfan Sat 15-Nov-25 14:42:25

Flippinheck is so rude, she should be banned. How can anyone be so bitchy about something they aren’t even forced to watch?
I admit I am not in favour of it either, but would never dream of being so dismissive and unpleasant.
If you don’t like it, Flippinheck, don’t watch it, but spare the rest of us your snippy comments.
To say it’s ‘an evening of mind-blowing tv’ says a lot about the sort of person you are. The evening raises loads of money and that’s a good thing, whether or not anyone thinks the programme is worth watching or not.
I’m very glad I don’t know anyone like you!

Crossstitchfan Sat 15-Nov-25 14:45:03

And another thing, Flippinheck, don’t be so rude to Allira! What has she ever done to you? I don’t always agree with everything people say, and occasionally comment, but I like to think I am not rude. I must say though, I am very tempted to be rude to you!

Brilliant total Wyllow!

Wyllow3 Sat 15-Nov-25 17:39:04

Yes, and still more to come in from some organisations.

And Sara Cox raised...yes - 9.5 million - alone.
