It has been my experience that most grans are in their 40's or 50's these days.....hardly old, so what's with the logo?

Babushka Wed 11-May-11 11:10:34

I am 50 with a grandson of 4, and ,like some other posters, I hadn't really noticed the logo. At least they're not holding knitting needles smile

slinky Wed 11-May-11 10:15:57

I'm 61 and not a grandmother.....yet.

I do live in hope that my offspring will breed some day.

Awful, awful logo. Plus what's with the 'join for free' thing. Is there some way you can pay?

nanamo Tue 10-May-11 22:33:59

Came to Gransnet just this morning after reading a few online articles - mostly from newspapers - and was almost put off entirely by the references to Facebook for the Elderly!
If we want to be part of a successful site ( and I believe it has a lot of potential) we have to have real input. Let's start with that WW2 poster which is the logo and let's put the media straight about the 'elderly' tag.
I've seen Mumsnet representatives many a time on tv so how about it? Could start with Lorraine Kelly as she seems to think even women over 50 still have a role!
Would love to volunteer but don't have enough experience of the site and live at the 'wrong' end of the country for tv appearances.

Hi I became A Granny at 50, it seems alifetime ago. My Gchildren ae overseas and I see them annually. I', m 67

nanapippa Tue 10-May-11 20:50:17

I am 62 but mentally 42. Something that has occurred to me akin to people saying they are too young to remember the land army is what songs will they sing in old peoples homes in a few years time? I certainly don't know the words to the war songs that they sing, so when are the carers going to realise they need to change their songs. Give it five to ten years and we will all look at them blankly!!! How about Yellow Submarine?

Pandemonia Tue 10-May-11 20:48:22

As my own grandmother used to say “I'm as old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth”.

I'm still not old enough to Know Better though.

ouma1948 Tue 10-May-11 20:32:22

I am 62 with 18 grandchildren ages from 10 to 25 and have 3 great grand children

Downswalker Tue 10-May-11 18:15:31

I am 67 and had my first grandchild last year. I was 34 when I had my daughter and she was 32 when she had her son.
I'm glad to see that the logo has BETA next to it, perhaps they can come up with something more appropriate . I suppose it does have a campaigning feel to it which this site is all about.
Young people do have some funny ideas about older people. A charity I work for produced a volunteers handbook where all the women volunteers illustrated in it looked like Thora Hird.
I often remind people that it was my generation who wore the first mini skirts. I do wish I still had my Mary Quant coat !

I suspect that whoever designed the logo is rather younger than most of us and therefore thinks we are all of the Vera Lyn age type. This is precisely why we need a voice , we are a massively ignored part of society, in the media especially .

MadHairGranny Tue 10-May-11 17:28:29

my own granny used to say, 'I'm as old as my tongue and a little older than my teeth.'

Mouse Tue 10-May-11 17:14:24

I'm 53 with a 10 week old GS and a 4 week old GD.

I HATE the logo. Everything about it is wrong from the colour to the graphic. Not much for the type face either.

sixtiesgirl Tue 10-May-11 12:57:51

The title is pants, the logo is pants. Could we have a suggestions forum for this site?

Notsogrand Tue 10-May-11 00:18:58

Smiling at the Shreddies knitting comments. When it first came out, I knitted 4 dozen Shreddies and posted them in tiny glass bowls to my grandchildren. 6 year old gs said to his Mum after they arrived 'Next time you talk to Nana, can you ask her to knit me some milk too'

So should we have a modern logo with a couple of young grandmothers drinking alco-pops from a bottle's, whilst being arrested by the bill. I think the logo depicts a time when we didn't have or need the internet to have friends. From a time as the song goes when you’ve got friends and nieghbours the world is a happier place, friends a nieghbours puts a smile on the gloomiest face. After all it is only a picture.:-). Mind I am a 69 coming 30 year old Grandad so perhaps I shouln't even be in this forum. wink LMHO

royston Mon 09-May-11 20:51:35

80 next year. One great grandson. Seven grandchildren. Four children.

grannymags Mon 09-May-11 20:44:05

are you from uddingston by any chance granny tunnocks

heleena Mon 09-May-11 19:32:09

I don't know if this counts but is a sign of the times. I am 65 and a great great great aunt!!!

lionlilac Mon 09-May-11 18:28:14

I'm 59 with 13 grandchildren and must admit the logo does look a bit maiden auntish from the 30s/40s. Jimmy Hendrix playing his guitar probably would be more appropriate. There is an awful lot of us cool grans on this site wink

glammanana Mon 09-May-11 12:59:30

The logo is very out of date agree with something maybe from sixties
or seventies as nannas are more up to date with everything.
Im 60 and have five DGSs aged 21-7yrs and two DGDs aged 9+13 so
am kept up to date with everything from fashion to music etc,i go to
Lpool and meet eldest DGS and his uni friends on regular basis and
always have something in common with them and have a good laugh
at their antics,so come on and give a more up to date logo" gransnet"
we have not lost the plot yet !

Grandmacool Mon 09-May-11 11:26:27

I also agree on the logo.... very boring indeed.

Grandmacool Mon 09-May-11 11:25:31

@nannylittle,
you did make me laugh.

My daughter is 38 with an almost 9yo daughter and my son of 34 has a 4yo. I 56 (but not for much longer).

lifestillrelevant Mon 09-May-11 10:34:16

I hadn't noticed the logo until you mentioned it but I can see what you mean! Very old fashioned.
I would have preferred a hippy 1960's logo. Flowerpower and all that. Or else something very modern.

Grumpyoldwoman Sun 08-May-11 21:09:09

I am 63 and my first DGD was born 8 yrs ago.
Some of you are really young ..no wonder you hate the 'Shreddies''ad.
I had my 1st baby at 24 but my 2 daughters were 31 when they had their first.
Know what you mean by the flag !!!

Supernan Sun 08-May-11 20:41:57

I think a more mature designer should have been commissioned. Ageism perhaps? wink
