Hello to you all, I've also just joined after reading about Gransnet in the weekend papers. About time we had a forum/voice! I'm a recently retired 61 year-old, and proudly, as my user name suggests, Harrison's Gran. He is just 8 weeks old and lives in Sussex, which is quite a long way from me as I'm in Somerset. I'm enjoying retirement so far much more than I thought I would - never been so busy. However, I find I'm losing the weekly structure that work imposes, and the days glide usefully one into another......still, as my overworked son says wistfully 'I'm sure you'll learn to live with that, Mum'!

Hi, I am a newbie. I am 72 years old and have a son with two sons 13 and 11 and a daughter with four children, two sons aged 23 and 21 and two girls 17 and 15(going on 18). I love them all very much and tell tham so often. I have a wonderful son-in-law and daughter-in-law. I swim and play short mat bowls. I love my laptop to shop on line, post on facebook and play several games, my favourite is scrabble. I love to chat

Sorry everyone; I posted twice without realising there was a new member thread because I'm truly awful at navigating sites. I am mother of two, gran of one and looking forward to getting to know you all.

Reading all the introductions,I think I am an older gran.Should have told you my 11 grandchildren range from 25 to almost 5.Still feel young though, and probably am similar to Nanamo.

Just joined this site, not a granma yet, but maybe in a couple of years. My husband and me left the husle and bustle of the city 6 years ago, we are retired, and now are so busy we don't know where we found the time to work. We moved to Caithness in the Scottish Highlands, we have a house over looking the sea, we have dogs, cats, chickens, lambs and we enjoy gardening. Husband also has a boat, so we enjoy sea food we have caught ourselves. Although in our 60s we feel as if we are in our 30s, we do what we want when we want, getting old is not all bad.

Just found out about this site.I have 4 children and 11 grandchildren! They are all scattered about the country from WhitlyBay,halifax,Kent &essex.I used to be a member of Haydock races(hence gamblingran) and wondered if there isanyone else out there who shared the same interest and now are in such a position(live alone)and cannot partake.I learned recently heard of a new game on internet,Bodugi.com.Its really interesting as you can play the game for free on varying tablesagainst other members. It also has a banter board where you can chat to other members. It keeps me in touch with family members who are also signed on it.I am getting so much fun out of it and hope there may be others out there who may do.I think gransnet is a very good thing I've enjoyed reading some of the topics.Look forward to reading any feedback.Good luck to gransnet,I'm sure it will thrive. All the best from

I'm excited to have joined what is obviously a lively, intelligent, articulate group of wise women! I knew there were lots of gorgeous, sociable grans out there but didn't know where to find them, now I do. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

This is great. I am new too, also found out about this site on the Observer this morning. I have been getting annoyed at my daughter for ages for spending so much time on mumsnet, cannot believe I am doing it now on gransnet! I have two grandchildren and a third expected any day now (all from the same and only daughter...)

Grumpyoldwoman Sun 08-May-11 20:20:11

Hi I'm another Newbie.
I have posted on 'Bad Mothers' before as my daughter loves it but it is great to have a forum for Nanas and Grannies.
I am originally from Wigan but have lived in the Scottish Borders for 34 yrs.
I am a retired Home Economics teacher.
I have been married to Phil for 42 yrs and have been with him since we were 14/16 resp.
I have 3 daughters all nearby and 4 granchildren ( no.5 in August)
I am so looking forward to ''meeting you all''

bikergran Sun 08-May-11 20:14:05

already addicted and only been registered a day!! lol....used to trawl another community site (buying and selling) smile as it had quite a good community thing going...but now ahaaaaa.long live gransnet smile

Downswalker Sun 08-May-11 19:19:41

I joined today as well after reading about it in the Observer during breakfast.
My daughter is a fan of Mumsnet and I have a lovely grandson aged 16 months whom I don't see often enough because he lives over 100 miles away.
I am fed up of being treated as 'old' by young shop assistants just because I have grey hair. I dress smartly and am quite slim. I notice that I often don't get asked if I need help in fashion shops whilst younger women get fawned over.

I walked into Gap one day behind a young girl who was given a discount voucher by an assistant at the door but I was ignored ! I asked why and she was very confused and embarrassed. We need more clothes for older women that aren't fuddy duddy or elasticated.

grandmacwtch Sun 08-May-11 15:51:00

Hello to all the other newbies, I am one too. Hoping to pick up some tips and have some chats with other grans. I will be looking after my nine month old granddaughter at the end of June, when her mum goes back to work, am looking forward to it, but also apprehensive as it has been a long time since I had sole care of a wriggly dribbly little sweetie baby.
