What time they get up for example.

This morning: (we won't count em (6 minutes past midnight!hmm))
Faye was on at 4.39!!
Can't count Joan - in Australia (surprised she manages to join in at all!)
Then there was the Bags at 6.25 - (she's always crack of dawn!hmm)
Closely followed by Pomps at the slightly more civillised 8.49!

Do not check when I start up!

Totally off topic, but does anyone know how did the expression codswallop arose?

laidback Wed 10-Jul-13 23:37:07

Ahhhhh...I see! will remember that.

Greatnan Wed 10-Jul-13 16:08:32

Laidback - I think some leave as one person and re-register under another name, perhaps because they are worried that some friend or family member has worked out who they are. However, it is very difficult to change your style and vocabulary so most regulars can spot the change. You would also have to be careful not to mention things that were supposed to have happened before you joined! Or give personal details that exactly matched a former member.
I don't think I could fool anybody as my style, vocabulary and concerns would remain unchanged.
We have to remember that Gransnet is open to non-members so the world and his wife can read what you post. I am glad I have never disclosed my own or my children's real surnames on the forum.

kittylester Wed 10-Jul-13 15:01:19

laidback Wed 10-Jul-13 14:15:57

Chat posts disappear after a while on Mumsnet. I wonder why they keep our old codswallop. hmm

annodomini Wed 10-Jul-13 10:51:42

Yes, JO8, if you look up the lists of forums and click on any of the headings, you can find a record of hundreds of old threads and the date of the last posting on each one.

kittylester Wed 10-Jul-13 10:25:20

Supernana - you could have just started a new thread and, therefore, stopped lots of oldies (as opposed to newbies) having palpitations. grin

Welcome Supernana10 flowers

j08 Wed 10-Jul-13 10:00:47

How do people come across ancient threads like this? confused (And why?!)

Bit scary. Is it all preserved for posterity?!

glammanana Wed 10-Jul-13 09:46:43

nellie you where not the only one confused I read my post and thought "I don't remember writing that yesterday" confused

Nelliemoser Wed 10-Jul-13 08:50:08

For those just posting there has been a gap of nearly two years before this post by SuperNana10 Wed 10-Jul-13 00:11:23
Time travel is alive and well on Gransnet. Eat your heart out Dr Who!

This had me confused for a time. grin

Backagain Wed 10-Jul-13 08:21:02

I wonder why not grin

Greatnan Wed 10-Jul-13 08:20:47

'I've got spurs, that jingle, jangle, jingle......' They don't write them like that any more! grin

I have just scrolled down the list and notice how many members are still regular posters now,and that jangly has evolved quite a few times.grin

JessM Wed 10-Jul-13 06:31:01

My grandchildren are in WA - there are a lot of us with far-flung families.

Greatnan Wed 10-Jul-13 06:21:42

Not only Aussies, but also Kiwis, Yanks, and some expats in various European countries - Gransnet has a long reach.
I am one hour ahead of UK time, in France, and wake at about 6 a.m. French time and usually log on quickly to see if my family in New Zealand has anything to say.

SuperNana10 Wed 10-Jul-13 00:11:23

So there are some Aussies on gransnet I thought it was just poms are there any from W.A.

Faye Fri 12-Aug-11 01:50:08

Caught you Granny23, it is early in the morning! smile

Granny23 Fri 12-Aug-11 01:43:18

You'll not catch me on here early in the morning. Only time I am up early is when we have to collect DGC @ 8.30 so up @7.30, leave house at 8.15 - no time to check Gransnet. If no childminding to do, don't usually surface until 10 or even 11 if it has been a particularly bad night.

Oldgreymare Fri 12-Aug-11 00:25:31

Gosh .... is that the time. Just stopped by to check a few threads and, hey ho I'm still here! Better go..... nighty night xx

I've just had a look at tumblr - it looks good. Think I'll sign up later when I've cooked an evening meal. I find Facebook rather strange and have drastically cut my "friends" down to the family only.

I don't understand Twitter at all confused

jangly Thu 11-Aug-11 17:44:00

tumblr sounds fantastic!!

I'll never read a book again at this rate though! blush

And DH is going to get well pissed off rather fed up.
