It's ok. They don't get deleted, not like on Mumsnet. Got that wrong. smile

No!!!! Nothing like that! Just the thread still there somewhere. People do seem to look over old threads when they join.

Actually, "Culture" might have been a better place for it. That's what these hymns are aren't they to give them their due? Our heritage.

So what you would like is a link on the front page to "uplifting hymns & music"?
ITWYM? grin

It's just that anyone joining after the thread has gone off Actives, might have liked to have had a look at some of them.

I wish I hadn't put this thread under Chat. It will self exterminate in a few days!
Bit of a waste of all these links.

Deuuurh! hmm

I remember going to church socials when |I was very small, and they used to finish with a hymn or two. "Eternal Father" was one of my favourites! I don't know why we sang it so often. We were a very inland community! I suppose, just after the war, we were very grateful to our fishermen. (Still are, of course)

remember school assembly, singing 'Eternal father, strong to save ----for those in peril on the sea'.Always a few tears because in wartime some girls had fathers at sea.
Also 'I vow to thee my country'
Was in a church choir in my teens.
I like 'Be still my soul' Is that Finlandia (Sibelius)?
and the easter hymns with lots of Allelulias.

Drawing back the curtains I think of ,"Lo, already on the hills,
The flags of dawn appear"
Why are modern hymns so banal and the words don't fit the tune?
Give me Hymns A & M every time.

Found it and just downloaded it, whatsup.

Nice thread.

Effblinder that is one of my favourites too! For hymns I like 'God Be in My Head' (very short but beautiful - we used to sing it at the end of the school day) and 'All People that on Earth do Dwell'. I do love a good hymn but don't like modern church music, I'm afraid. Bit set in my ways.

jeni Tue 07-Feb-12 19:30:32

Jing. I think that's wrong!

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 19:05:34
