Snowphobia - help!

I really really hate the snow. we moved to the east midlands as I just couldn't stand the snow and cold in N Yorks no matter how pretty it was. Today I am so anxious I itch all over and feel like crying all because it snowed again yesterday just when it was clearing. I could scream. Its my 59th birthday on Sunday and I don't want that either so haven't been able to tell my nice husband what I would like as a pressie. I have been dieting strictly since September and haven't lost as much as I would hope and I cant even eat anything to comfort me as i am trying to break the pattern of comfort eating and drinking. i am probably just a spoilt neurotic bitch but I feel terrible today.

I'm not wild about snow Susiecb but I've felt much more positive about it since I got some waterproof "stable" boots which have really good treads and are warm as toast.
I can walk briskly without fear of falling, and that makes a huge difference.

wine [cupcakes] sunshine xx

The father of a friend was a postman. He has just celebrated his eighty-seventh birthday. His daughter now wears the contraptions made of chains and rubber issued to postal workers when it snowed. You clip them to the underside of your sensible footwear and they are still keeping her upright.

I bought some knee length boots from Decathlon last Winter and they are wonderful in the snow. They have deep treads on the soles, and sheepskin linings. They look like suede, but don't get water-marked even if I have to go into deep snow to dig out my car. I hate wellingtons - they are so cold and so hard to get off. I do have crampons that go round the boots but I find I don't need them with my lovely boots.
A tip from my Swiss friend was to buy some silk inner gloves to go inside my thick padded ski gloves. I also wear a woollen hat that pulls down over my ears and the back of my neck, and has a peak to keep the sun out of my eyes.
I notice that most visitors are leaving their cars on the car park and walking to the ski-lift, which is about ten minutes away.

Thank you all I do wear my lovely Berghaus walking boots in the snow with lovely socks its just that i seem to get cold through to my bones and cant egt warm at all. BUT today the sun is shining I don't think the ice is melting much here but no news of anymore on the way so feeling more like myself today. i hope its a good day for you all too.thanks

(((hug))) you don't need to be cold in the snow ever again, because you can mother yourself now.

Ariadne Sat 11-Feb-12 11:36:15

JessM lovely. I agree, susiecb - pamper yourself!

kittylester Sat 11-Feb-12 13:42:57

Oh susiecb what a shame. Friends have recommended that we try the Belvoir Brewery but I think we'll wait until the weather warms up.

I have a friend who plays golf 2 or 3 times a week and she is quietly going stir crazy, especially as her husband also plays most days, so is stuck at home too. I bet you are missing your golf!

Getting to 59 was weird for me too but I put it down to the '9' bit and felt much better when I got to be 61! It IS only a number but if it gets to you it's a huge number but, once the day is past and you can forget about it, you will probably feel loads better. As someone else said, it's better than the alternative

Wrap up warm today, maybe eat chocolate - small amounts are REALLY good for you, spoil yourself, enjoy tomorrow and then forget about it! The weather won't be like this for much longer - it never is in the wonderful (!?) East Midlands, that's why we live here (I think!) smilethankssunshine

I promise, promise, susie that Spring is coming VERY soon. Today we have hedgerows with daffodils, snowdrops, primroses and even Devon violets blooming in the sunshine smileI'm sending you some thanks

Hi Susie, I do sympathise with how you're feeling, and sorry the meal wasn't a success. I've been feeling a bit marooned too, I can't wait to see the back of the snow, however pretty it looks. Since I fell and broke my wrist badly last Autumn, I'm really scared of falling again, and I avoid going out, apart from driving to work. I feel rather trapped inside,, as we don't have see many people here. I'm just about to put my Wi fit on and have a dance around, maybe do the simple step thing, as it will warm me up, and hopefully make me feel happier. I hear that exercise does have that effect.

Even our cats are going "stir crazy" they too want to go out in the warm, and I think we are all just longing for Spring, its really just round the corner.

Hope you have a good weekend, keep chatting here, people are so lovely and supportive. sunshine

I got off my settee and went to Samoens and Sixt, which are higher than Habere Poche. Very pretty and in other years I would have taken photos for my Facebook page, but at the moment there seems to be just as much snow in the UK and the rest of France. It is snowing heavily now.
Definitely a duvet day tomorrow and Radio 4 all morning.

Ariadne Sat 11-Feb-12 17:23:23

Isn't it hard to get moving? I am so looking forward to next week, when we're on the road to see the family in Hampshire and Devon (I come home in between, DH taking detour to Conference in B'ham in the middle) Trying NOT to take two cars....I think I don't want to drive.

But it means that I need to do things tomorrow, so have an impetus, or KUTA as it's known round here. Am in danger of stagnating, physically if not mentally (and that is thanks to you lot!)

goldengirl Sat 11-Feb-12 17:39:57

I've been hibernating in this weather. Am terrified of falling as my balance isn't particularly good. Luckily the snow on our side of the road has gone so I went out for a short walk in the sunshine this afternoon. It was bitterly cold but at least it was exercise. I wear walking boots but I've found some grippers to put over shoes in the cupboard - I forgot I had them, so I'll try them next time, if there is a next time! However the studs on the bottom look very small and I wonder if they'll work hmm

Happy birthday, susiecb- enjoy your lunch! When I was young (about 10!) a special day out for me was to be taken to Belvoir Castle. I just loved everything about it - the castle, scenery, all of it! Have a great day with plenty of wine and cupcake!

At least when the snow is on the ground you can see where the dog has BEEN.

Ilove snow it is snowing now .

Grrrreat!!

Mishap Tue 15-Jan-13 15:10:33

I love the snow and how beautiful it makes everything - but I hate having to drive in it - and at the moment I couldn't even contemplate walking on it on my crutches!

Don't give up susie - we all have our down days.

Hope the birthday goes well.

cheelu Tue 15-Jan-13 15:12:36

Susiecb we are all entitled to a moan--I love the snow but can understand if you have a problem with it--my husband does not stop groaning when it rains...

I was a bit like that with my 50th birthday but the truth is we have a choice, give ourselves a misearble day or just enjoy all the love and attention.

Just a bad day S. we all get them, tommorow will be better sweet x x
