Side effects? Do Kindles have side effects?

The mind boggles....confused

I buy The Oldie so presumably I am well over the hill. To be honest, A friend saw the cover and exclaimed "How patronising!" but I have found it the least patronising of magazines. The contributors are mostly older than I am, so they don't dare be patronising. Katherine Whitehorn? Wilfrid De'Ath? Bernard Ingram?

Oh heck, try a free sample and judge for yourself - don't criticise what you have not read!

Anyway back to Kindles, I love mine and would not part with it, but I find its too easy to spend just with one click grin dangerous!!!!!

I have not read The Oldie so maybe should not be critical, but I feel think the name would put me off.

One problem that I have sometimes with a Kindle is that if I forget just who a certain character is, it is not very easy to skip back through to find a previous reference to him/her. Yes, I know that I can use the search facility but a book can be easier to flick back a few pages.
Generally I'm delighted with my Kindle, just wish some of the books were more reasonably priced

I will definitely buy the Oldie.
When I'm old.
I don't think that will be any time soon. wink

They do Elegran. They want us to buy the Oldie.

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 14-Mar-12 18:48:51

And your blog. hmm

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 14-Mar-12 18:48:10

So all this is just to advertise The Oldie mag?!

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 14-Mar-12 18:46:44

Webster - you've got a point there! shock

wotsamashedupjingl Wed 14-Mar-12 18:45:48

I know Elegran! hmm just thought we could give 'em a hard time to start with grin

grannyactivist Wed 14-Mar-12 18:43:12

No drawbacks. I usually take twelve books on a seven day holiday - and have to dress like a slob because there's no room for clothes. Not any more! grin I love my Kindle.

Elegran Wed 14-Mar-12 18:41:35

Jings don't panic. This is legalised advertising (and no-one wants you to buy anything)

Elegran Wed 14-Mar-12 18:40:30

One drawback is the ease with which you can buy up everything on Amazon. At least if you are tempted in a bookshop you have to carry a heavy bag back home.

But this is the Oldie section isn't it? Isn't the whole section advertising? If I've got it wrong I apologise.

"I write the Superbyw@ys column in The Oldie"

Advertising!

ELEGRAN !!!!!!!

Webster Wed 14-Mar-12 18:11:40

I write the Superbyw@ys column in The Oldie - and when I wrote about Kindles a short while ago, I had more responses from readers than on almost anything I've written in years. You can still read it here: www.webstersblog.co.uk/kindle-the-fire/ and I'll post some of the responses on my website soon.

Here's the point - almost every one was in favour of Kindles - but surely they must have drawbacks? Side effects? Anyone have any ideas?
