The other morning during one of my regular brisk walks I passed Baroness Betty Boothroyd looking resplendent in a purple outfit, big hairdo and make-up, slimmer than expected, and obviously on her way to Parliament were the queen was due to address both houses.

Only in this country would a former Speaker be queuing at the bus stop! smile

Good morning riverwalk, that must have been quite a vision. Glad to hear that the whole world has not gone security mad.

One of the few politicians that I unreservedly admired. Bercow is not in the same league. Long may she flourish.

Could now call he 'Bus pass Betty'!

Making the most of her bus pass, good for her smile

Good morning to you too JessM. I agree on the security aspect, although I hadn't thought of that.

I was impressed that she was using public transport - you know how it can be in many other countries where politicians, past and present, travel by motorcade and tinted windows.

I can't see a former French or US speaker taking the bus!

What a trouper (sic)! I've always admired her and do so even more since I heard her speak at a dinner. She has a great sense of humour and talks sense - a trait sadly lacking in many of her colleagues.

I have to run an AGM next week - maybe about 60 people - BB will be my inspiration if they get restive. I have also borrowed a gavel and whatever you call the thing you hit with the gavel. Though as DH pointed out, it has a crack in it and is held together by the felt pad at the bottom.
