I think a Wodenspon should be given out free to every GN member (we haven't had our vibrators yet, either hmm)

Absolutely, Carol!

You're still on Gransnet, and you're still entitled to your opinion and welcome on any topic on the website.

If you'd rather not talk about certain topics, or read about them, you're entirely welcome not to look at or comment on them.

We'd stick with what Carol says - "Carry on as usual" smile

Just carry on as usual Ariadne. There was a lot of upset when it showed up because it was segregating Oldie's from Gransnetters, and when anyone is on here, we are ALL Gransnetters. If you visit the Oldie, you can be an oldie on there.

There's no need for segregation - we are all equal and welcome on here. Gransnet, that is, unless I've strayed onto another website and not noticed? smile

So, is it avoidable? Don't want to leave GN!

Ariadne Wed 11-Apr-12 15:42:22

Well, I do not like it. I think boring people moaning about their boring CDS is, well, boring. Oh dear...

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 11-Apr-12 15:36:43

Hi Ariadne,

Just to clear things up:

We're running a forum for The Oldie, which they're calling The Oldie Borum. If you go on their website and click, you get to their forum, run by us.

Depending on where you come from, it looks different. If you access it from their site, it comes up with an Oldie header. If you access it from Gransnet, it looks like one of our forums.

Hope that helps to explain what's going on! Can see it is a bit confusing if you access it from, say Active Conversations.

Ariadne Wed 11-Apr-12 15:30:07

But this is Gransnet - something different, albeit for older people. Not an advertising space for a magazine.

feetlebaum Wed 11-Apr-12 15:22:22

Because this is the Oldie Borum... where else would it be?

And yes, The Oldie is a magazine, about the only real general interest one left - take a look here www.the.oldie.magazine.co.uk/ to get an idea of it's contents.

Ariadne Wed 11-Apr-12 14:56:12

But why is it here? Has anyone wished to hear about it? Forgive me if other GNs are interested. Just feels as if these folk are in the wrong place?

(Who is Craig Brown anyway?)

puffer Wed 11-Apr-12 14:49:46

You have just beaten me to it. I was about to ask why this month’s Craig Brown CD doesn’t seem to be available for download to us subscribers? It’s available to those buying from a news stand - and we subscribers are supposed to be the ‘lifeblood of any magazine’ I am tempted to think we are being treated shabbily.

I enjoyed Maureen Lipman’s monologues, and am keen to hear the Craig Brown CD. So when’s it coming?

glammanana Wed 11-Apr-12 14:46:46

Ariadne I have never seen it on any newstand ?

Ariadne Wed 11-Apr-12 14:44:41

What's all this about? Do not understand - is this "Oldie" some sort of publication?

CDs? Get iTunes.

I don't believe it! I thought magazines usually tried to keep subscribers happy as valued customers, but the Oldie's new giveaway CD series flies straight against that concept. If I buy the current Oldie in a shop, I get a CD by Craig Brown and friends. I can put the CD in my player and just listen to the fun and games.
But as a reward for my subscribing to the magazine for nigh on 20 years, I don't get the CD delivered. Instead I have to log on to the Oldie website, then discover that the magazine lies in its teeth when it tells subscribers they can download the Craig Brown recordings. They're not there! Just the ones by Maureen Lipman.
OK, I like Maureen Lipman, but to download her CD online I have to do this TRACK BY TRACK! This means separately right-clicking on each track name and clicking the series of tick boxes my computer needs for each download. Each track takes between 2-3 minutes to download. Acquiring what those on the street have provided ready to run takes me half an hour of labour.
Why doesn't dear Ingrams just put the CD in the magazine for subscribers the same as he does for the newsstands? I really feel I'm being punished for subscribing now. Probably shan't renew next time round.
