It is a long time since it rained as hard as this, I have a swimming pool where my patio should be. After a quick run round the house with the vac, climbed on the sofa and spent the day watching rubbish TV recordings.

We have a very nice new coffee shop opened fairly recently, it's become a firm favourtie. The decor is quite frankly loads of old things - mirrors of every shape and size, ditto on lamp shades, photos and the tables are from tiny tables for two, to refectory style for 8plus. We adore it - as the do my fav.vanilla latte and a toasted tea cake. So I met a friend there for that and a chat with other like minded people.

We had a typical Scottish day. Rain showers quite heavy, then sunshine breaking through, rainbows, colder than expected because of the wind. Another shower, another rainbow, more sunshine. I collected the big lawn mower from the servicing chappie and talked to him about strimmers.

It was pretending to rain this evening so we took the Cubs outside to run around to Hindi instructions then, to cool down inside, they coloured in rangoli designs. I'll decorate the scout hut walls with those. Five newbies tonight and the eighth birthday of one of them so cake all round. A satisfying night.

Well. I'm really tired! The wind here has kept me awake for the last two nights, and I'm working again tomorrow.
Sleep well all!

It was a lovely day, Gally! The air was fresh and smelt of newly-turned soil and flowers, did you notice? smile

Gally Wed 18-Apr-12 20:04:41

[smug emoticon] For once it isn't raining here - sunny for most of the day -Eureka!

absentgrana Wed 18-Apr-12 20:02:25

I am visiting New Zealand where the weather is unseasonably warm and sunny for autumn. [smug emoticon] The mornings and evenings are chilly though.

Been very virtuous and finished an essay due in at uni tomorrow. Very last minute so the rain helped to focus me. I squashed any inclination to sort out washing or tidy up. Now on GN for reward though should start next week's assignment. Susie cb I hope wine helped you feel better.

jeni Wed 18-Apr-12 18:55:43

maniac
Where is it these days? I'd like to visit sometime.

Maniac Wed 18-Apr-12 18:36:00

I went to do my stint in the Welcome Lodge at the Bristol Univ.Botanic Garden.
Heavy rain so no visitors in my 2 hours. I enjoyed the peace and quiet and read my Kindle.
Bought a plant -Phlomis Russeliana 8in pot -looks very healthy.

Well its still raining here, my fashion advice is not required, I have just upset my sister, I'm starving and about to go off my diet and drink wine in the afternoon. hate bad weather - makes me even grumpier than usual

Ariadne Wed 18-Apr-12 14:12:51

I have made a list! The house goes on the market next week, and having been conferencing / partying all weekend now have to get a move on.

Popped into GN a few times, of course.

Washed down some window frames (because I washed the curtains, which are now draped around the place because it's *** down with rain)

Caught up with various charity events with which I'm involved, and sent out flyers.

Hid the curtains I didn't wash, until the rain stops. (There's a hosepipe ban here...)

Now having a little sit down, which may turn into a little lie down, I think. Yawn.

Working sad

susiecb Wed 18-Apr-12 12:53:29

Well in the end I cleaned the bathrooms, made some soup, did some internet shopping and soaked my face in orchid oil. Go and eat soup now. I ma starting conversational Italian to night so that will be something positive - my pak choi which went in yesterday likes the rain and the rhubarb is burgeoning.

MrsJamJam Wed 18-Apr-12 12:32:55

Long lie in with v. good book, DH did us poached eggs on toast for breakfast, then I finished a painting for my art class tomorrow (am usually very bad at getting my homework done - good at excuses!), making leek and split pea soup for lunch and this afternoon will be a DVD in front of the fire!

Lovely, cosy day.

tanith Wed 18-Apr-12 12:17:52

I've walked to the pool and had a swim , then popped into daughter no2 for a cuppa and a chat.. I've put some white washing on and intend on catching up with a couple of things OH recorded for me while I was away for a couple of days.. now I need to go hunt for dinner in the freezer, where did I put those lamb steaks?

Must say my garden is loving the rain though..

grannyactivist Wed 18-Apr-12 12:16:30

I've been on GN for far too long. I am about to leave and pot up my tomato seedlings, put in some washing, do some errands in town and tidy my bedroom which looks as though a jumble sale is about to start there.
I shall tell you later just how many of these tasks ( and more? ) I have accomplished.

Granb Wed 18-Apr-12 11:09:18

Should have been working but.... have a lunch event for charity of which I am a trustee. Have to take a plate of food and have just realised that I have made a large cake, some salad, roasted some small potatoes and mixed up a tartare sauce for dipping! Not sure what was thinking confused

gracesmum Wed 18-Apr-12 11:09:17

Has to be the wettest drought since records began?grin
