Today I've been mainly.........Vol. 5

Been having windows measured for new curtains, in John Lewis they say made to measure in seven days. Today I asked the person who did the estimate how long the curtains would take, 6 to 8 weeks was the answer. Perhaps they are made in 7 days and then hang on to them for a while.

thinking about last night when I went to bed. I opened the window to close the shutters and heard a nightingale singing! It was so beautiful - all was quiet in our little hamlet, just the stars twinkling above and then this wonderful melody rising and falling, as if the nightingale was saying how happy it was. I'm going up now - hope there's a repeat performance!

Just printed off boarding cards for tomorrow as we've been asked to do an emergency babysit next week.SIL had to go the States and daughter to Africa. Trying to be calm and waiting for husband to come home to see if the packing is right . Aaaagh We could fly on sunday but the airfare is four times higher it being bank holiday. And it's raining there

I had a spate of Jo Nesbo stories a few months ago and also read a number of other Scandinavian detective writers. I needed an antidote so hence all the Trollope. I shall soon need an antidote to that.

Today we3 have been driving to our daughters to baby sit while they have a weekend away for their anniversary. Stopped off at a cafe in Great Bardfield, the Blue Egg. Some of the best lunch time food we have ever had.

Today I've been.........mentally tracking the Wonderful Man as he has been travelling on the first leg of his solo cycle ride to the North Cape. He has travelled by train and bike to Harwich and is now on a ferry to Esbjerg in Denmark en-route to Norway and will be home in eight weeks!!

When my DD1 and the little boy next door (now her husband) were 3 or 4 his mum and I were enjoying a chat and a coffee and suddenly realised that the two kiddies had been quiet for a long time. When we went upstairs to investigate we found them in the room that was in the process of being redecorated. They had pasted everything with that gloopy wallpaper paste...walls including the newly papered one, his dad's shoes, pasting table, door and themselves! I just scooped both kids up & took them to mine and stuck them in the bath leaving his poor mum to scrape up the mess!

My twin grandsons, aged 2 at the time, scribbled all over the newly painted wall in the kitchen. When asked who did it they both said 'nana!' Mum said 'well if it was nana, she is in deep trouble. Are you sure?' 'Yes' they said, without so much as a blink.

The wallpaper at the side of the toilet got pulled off bit by bit when my two were about 9/10 and even now, 30 years later, neither will own up to it!

Oldest gs was in a mood with his mum ...so wrote all over my hall wall paper whilst sitting on the bottom step (which his mum had designated as the naughty step!!) it was that bumpy wallpaper too so couldn't rub it off

Yes Greatnan my younger sister did great artwork with Mum's scarlet lipstick, on the carpet, the wallpaper, the wool blankets and some on her own face.
When my GD drew glasses on her face just before going to nursery one day, I think it took a week for the biro to fade even with vigorous scrubbing.
My DD was an angel compared to the GC, never got up to mischief. She was on the receiving end a good scrubbing from her aunt when she was a toddler. I was not well and my sister said she would bathe her,she said she could not get the biro off her arms but on examination it was blue veins, she had very pale almost translucent skin. She did not have children of her own and did not have much experience of looking after them

GS 'planted' all his mum's clothes pegs in a plant pot. What he expected to grow, I can't imagine.

Planting lots of plants in my new flower bed so that next door's cats can come along and dig them up! (I dare them!).

My sister found her 3-year old son and his cousin diligently filling jugs in the bathroom and pouring them into the bedding chest.
My own girls,when they were 3 and 2, had a contest to see who could make the highest mark on their bedroom wall in my lipstick, by bouncing on the bed. Have you ever tried to get lipstick off wallpaper?

glass! at least it wasn't blue, as DD3 did. She also did a HUGE round blob of crayon, several layers thick, on he bedroom wall. As my jaw dropped when I saw it, she said: "It's a train a' course!" Front on, full steam ahead, in yer face!!!

DH was my biggest problem when the DC were small and felt tip pens had just arrived. He thought it was hilarious to write "tummy" in black pen on their tums, and of course it wouldn't come off...fortunately I stopped him writing "bottom" just in time!

When I think about it but she covered her hair in her Daddys wet look gel, just before we had to go to school for praise assembly, tried washing it out with all sorts, washing up liquid the lot, it would not shift. (took about 10 days before it was totally removed).
Its was a hot day so she could not wear a hat so she went to praise assembly in her dressy up veil and headdress and I got into serious trouble (from her Mum) for taking her out like that, but her brother was getting a certificate so as I was the only one going to see him I could not let him down!!
